Herbalism Fresh Cleanser

On the outside world, Herbalism is the study of botany and the use of plants intended for medicinal purposes. Inside a Lush store, Herbalism is a natural face and body cleanser.

Herbalism has been part of my daily routine for a while now. I originally started with Angels On Bare Skin in its place and as wonderful as that is, after trying Herbalism out, this is definitely the cleanser for me and if you’re hoping for bright and beautifully cleansed skin, then it could be for you too!

Like all of Lush’s fresh cleansers, to use Herbalism you just need to take a pinch of the product and add water, then mush it into your hands until it creates a paste and then use it to cleanse. (The only trouble I find with the fresh cleansers, especially Herbalism as it’s so crumbly, is that it tends to be somewhat messy and if you aren’t careful you can end up wasting a lot of the product).

Herbalism is very cleansing due to the antiseptic qualities of the Nettle, Rosemary and Rice Vinegar. These ingredients are particularly useful in helping spot prone skin as they are also anti-inflammatory and they are perfect to help brighten the complexion. Another cleansing ingredient is a type of clay called Kaolin, which also acts as the product’s natural preservative, as it’s so absorbent, it removes water therefore not allowing the reproduction of harmful bacterias.

This cleanser also has a mild exfoliant in the form of Ground Almonds and Rice Bran, removing dead skin cells and paving the way for the brighter, smoother skin below. The almonds also create a soft milk when the water is added, which is what makes Herbalism feel really nice.

Chlorophyllin, Rose and Camomile help balance skin tone. The Chlorophyllin lush use is extracted from Alfalfa plants which are rich in vitamins and minerals great for revitalising the skin. Chlorophyllin is also the reason Herbalism has such a strong green colour.

This cleanser is great for purifying and detoxing the skin with all these lovely aforementioned ingredients. Whilst Herbalism is the one for me, make sure you check out the others as there might be another more suited to your skin.

The strong herbal, earthy smell of herbalism can put people off, and honestly I wasn’t a massive fan when I first started using it, however I can definitely say I’ve got used to it!

Take a look at it on the Lush UK website here!
