Calacas Shower Gel

A calaca is the name of a figure of a skeleton used for decoration in the Mexican Day of The Dead festival. Calacas are usually depicted as being happy even in death. Lush first released Calacas shower gel as a Halloween limited edition product, and have since bought it back for different occasions although never releasing as a year round product.

I’ll start by saying that the unique Calacas scent is to die for. As soon as you pop the lid open you’re instantly hit with the refreshing smell. It reminds me of sugary sweets and fresh cut limes, the perfect mixture between sweet and citrusy. Obviously Lime Oil is in there, the ultimate zesty ingredient for a product with Mexican inspiration. It’s cut with uplifting and toning Neroli Oil and protective Olibanum Oil, which adds a undertone of sweet, fruity, woodiness. In my opinion it’s the perfect awakening scent for a crisp Autumnal day.

Calacas shower gel has quite a thick consistency, not like a shower cream but still quite gloopy and honey-like. Once you’re lathering it up in your hands or sponge, the aroma fills the air and your senses are instantly lifted and awakened. The scent is so strong (definitely not a bad thing!) you can surely smell it for the rest of the day.

Although I wouldn’t describe Calacas as being super moisturising, it certainly isn’t drying or stripping whatsoever either. In fact, due to the addition of lots of Aloe Vera Gel it’s actually incredibly soothing, great for any redness and/or irritation you may have on the skin!

I swear to Mark God that Calacas is a MUST try scent/product. Anything from the scent family is gorgeously great at lifting the spirits (get it?). Although Lush have many citrus scented products, this is nothing like anything that Lush have I can assure you, and although it’s not currently around, I am sure that Lush won’t stop making this popular product every now and then, so be sure to get your hands on it!
