Although Toothy Tabs have been around a lot longer, Lush have only been doing Mouthwash Tabs since 2016 when they released a whole range of them. Where Miles of Smiles is the closest Toothy Tab to standard toothpaste in terms of flavour, Crème De Menthe is the most similar alternative to standard minty mouthwash, as you’d expect from the name.
They come as little diamond shaped tablets, in a recyclable bottle. The idea is you take one tablet, pop it in your mouth and take a sip of water to start the fizz. Then you nibble and swish before spitting the water out like you would with normal mouthwash.
When using liquid mouthwash, the amount of product you take into your mouth can vary, and so mouthwash tabs have been carefully formulated and tested to be the perfect concentration of ingredients when taken with a sip of water, whether big or small.
Lush don’t feel comfortable with adding fluoride to their products, unlike other mouthwash brands. The use of this chemical has always been controversial and there’s no evidence to suggest that fluoride is essential for having healthy teeth and gums.
Instead Lush use Dicalcium Phosphate Anhydrous, Sodium Bicarbonate, Silica and Xylitol as ingredients to help prevent bacterial growth (bad smells) in the mouth. These ingredients are completely safe and have no data suggesting that they are harmful in any way.
Crème De Menthe gets the minty flavour from Menthol Crystals and Peppermint. Crème De Menthe is quite strong in flavour and for those looking for alternatives to generic mouthwash because of the strong flavour then maybe this isn’t for you. Personally, I love the strong, cooling and refreshing feeling of big minty flavours so this mouthwash works well for me. It leaves a tingly feeling on your tongue so you know for sure its working!
I find that this mouthwash freshens the breath almost instantly, very much like chewing gum or mint candies. I often take a bottle of mine out with me in my bag in case of bad breath emergencies! The small bottle is so compact so it’s much easier than taking out a whole bottle of standard mouthwash.
I really like the mouthwash tabs, Lush recently showcased some really great new flavours at their 2018 Creative Showcase so I’m hoping that these become part of the range soon as I feel new and exciting flavours are definitely needed!
