Toothy Tabs are probably one of the last things that you think about when it comes to Lush Products and are often overlooked by people not willing to part with their Aquafresh at home. They’re a little different, and at first I was really put off by the thought of using something other than standard toothpaste but I’ll try anything once.
Unlike most standard toothpastes, Lush don’t use fluoride in their alternatives. The talk about fluoride is a complicated discussion with some people saying it’s harmless and others suggesting that data has proven high amounts of fluoride to be potentially toxic. Really, it’s a personal decision what you want to put in your body and Lush are simply giving customers more choice when it comes to finding their perfect dental products.
To use you simply pop one of the appropriately sized tabs between your front teeth and chew it up slightly. Then run your toothbrush through the water from the tap and brush your teeth with the foam the tabs produce!
In their toothy tabs, Lush have chosen to use other ingredients to help clean teeth and prevent tooth decay such as Sodium Bicarbonate, Kaolin and something called Dicalcium Phosphate Anhydrous.
Dicalcium Phosphate Anhydrous is a natural salt which is widely used in toothpastes for its polishing and plaque removing properties, it’s also often used a supplement for calcium. Sodium Bicarbonate and Kaolin are also very cleansing and help the product foam up.
Sodium Bicarbonate also raises the alkaline levels in the saliva, creating an environment that is hostile for bacterial growth.
Miles of Smiles is probably the closest in flavour to actual Toothpaste. It’s a triple whammy of mint flavours, leaving your mouth smelling and feeling fresh and the oils produced from the Peppermint plant are very antibacterial for a strong clean. It’s definitely the best one to try first, especially if you aren’t keen on trying different flavours of dental care. I’m sure they’re not as bad as you think!
