As always, Lush are constantly trying to reduce plastic by developing their innovative ideas. Christmas 2017 saw the first release of Naked Body Conditioners alongside their potted counterparts to give people the choice to use a pot or not. I think it’s so cute how they’ve designed them to look like the pots.
A body conditioner is basically an in-shower moisturiser. And where you’d apply a scoop of the liquid variety, with this version, you pick up the whole thing and apply much like you would a massage bar, rubbing it all over and massaging the product in.
At first glance, the hot pink colour of Snow Fairy Naked Body Conditioner is a lot darker than the potted version‘s more light bubblegum pink colour. Nevertheless, they are basically the same product, the solid version simply has extra ingredients to keep it solid.
The amount of Cocoa Butter in this version is significantly more, and Lush have added two waxes from vegetable sources, Japan Wax and Carnauba Wax, to help solidify the product along with two extra butters – Illipe and Shea. The addition of these ingredients of course changes how the product feels on your skin, I’d say that this version seems a lot more oily and thicker once it’s on your skin and therefore I believe it to be the more moisturising of the two, but because of this it can take longer to sink in.
Furthermore, because of the extra waxes, it does seem to leave your skin feeling more protected and nourished than the potted version but just make sure you really are rubbing it all in otherwise you might be left with a pinky hue to your skin!
Weirdly, the scent of this version doesn’t seem as sweet and I’m not entirely sure I can figure out why, but I imagine it to be because of the extra ingredients masking the sweet synthetic musk that makes up the Snow Fairy scent. Moreover, the scent actually lasts longer on your skin with the non-naked version.
In conclusion, its hard to decide which version I prefer but I might have to side with the naked. I really love a body conditioner and I love the oily rich, but not greasy effect they leave you skin with and I find this version gives slightly more of that.
If you’re not going naked this Christmas, make sure you’re holding on to your black pots to bring back to a local Lush to be recycled and reused! Hold on to five and you’ll be able to get a free Fresh Face Mask as a thank you!
