The Ectoplasm scent family first appeared for 2017’s Halloween launch when Lush bought out the Ectoplasm Jelly Bomb. Although it received generally mixed reviews, Lush bought out more Ectoplasm scented goods for Halloween 2018, including a shower cream, or ‘scream’.
This bright shower cream really stands out amongst the others because of it’s fluorescent highlighter yellow colour, it’s so bright it’s almost luminous and apparently it even glows under UV light!
From first whiff as you pop open the bottle, you are instantly met with a triple threat of Tangerine Juice, Water and Oil. The Tangerine is definitely what drives the scent and gives it it’s freshly squeezed, fruity fragrance. Tangerines are full of vitamins, great for reviving, cleansing and brightening the skin and their sweet, yet zesty aroma is perfect for lifting your mood. Grapefruit Juice, Grapefruit Oil and sweet lemony Litsea Cubeba Oil round out the scent giving it secondary notes and enhancing the uplifting effects.
I’m not actually a massive fan of how the jelly bomb smells, and was a little disappointed when I first saw the scent being made again, but with this incarnation, I’m actually tolerating it. I think the extra juices have made it smell a little sweeter and like actual fruit juice, giving a much more pleasant aroma than the almost smokey, burnt orange notes from the bath bomb.
As a (s)cream, Ectoplasm is very thick due to the ingredients being blended with Cocoa Butter. Like most of Lush’s shower creams, it didn’t lather up at all that much but I found that a little bit does go a long way and feels luxuriously soft on your skin. Almond Oil also locks extra moisture into your skin and replenishes essential nutrients.
I really like to use this shower cream in the morning as the scent only elevates in the hot water filling your senses, plus it makes my skin look extra radiant and bright. A downside of this exclusive product would be that the scent doesn’t linger as much after you’ve towelled down.
I’m glad that my opinion of the Ectoplasm range has changed but I can’t say it’s left me gagging for more. I’ll be posting about the naked version of this shower gel next so make sure you’re staying updated!
