Melusine is a figure of European folklore and mythology, she is a female spirit of fresh water in a sacred spring or river and is usually depicted as a woman who is a serpent or fish from the waist down, much like a mermaid. Melusine Bath Bomb clearly takes it’s inspiration from this myth as it features a scaly green and yellow exterior. Melusine has to be one of the most beautiful bath bombs I’ve ever seen and I’ve been so excited to use it!
This currently Harajuku exclusive bath bomb shares its scent with Avocado Co-Wash, a fragrance that is growing in popularity amongst the Lush Community, and rightly so, it’s gorgeous. It’s a zesty, juicy-sweet citrus based scent that’s made up of Bergamot, Litsea Cubeba and Olibanum. Not widely heard of but Litsea Cubeba Oil is extracted from the fruits of a small evergreen tree and has a sweet lemony aroma similar to Lemongrass. Skin-refreshing Bergamot has such an uplifting scent which encourages wellbeing and Olibanum adds a slightly deeper, smokey note compared to it’s zesty partners. It’s such a moreish, energising scent and I truly believe that Lush got it right in this format.
Once in the water, Melusine immediately shoots out clouds of green and yellow into the water, before it started spinning, creating stunning patterns for my viewing pleasure. The different shades of yellows and greens slowly mixed into each other and finally ended in a deep green colour.
One thing you’ll definitely notice about Melusine is the amount of glitter that fills your bath tub. The actual ballistic is decorated with shards of green plastic-free glitter, but I never would have guessed at how much lay inside too! The water was really shimmering in the light and I really felt a sense of magic just gazing in awe at it, it’s definitely one of the most glittery bombs out there at the moment!
The water itself felt incredibly soft due to the addition of Sea Salt, Carrageenan Extract and Sarcocornia Powder. Sarcocornia, also known as samphire, is an umbrella name for more than thirty species of edible salt-tolerant plants. The sodium rich powder is greatly cleansing and is perfect for softening bath water. I was also very pleased at just how strong the scent remained, even towards the end of my bath.
Once I was out and dried off, I could still smell the perfume on my skin and for a good few hours later. I wish I could tell you the glitter simply drains down the plughole but I can’t. My body was covered in it; as was my towel, my bathroom floor, the clothes I put on afterward, my hair, literally everything and I’m still finding it a few days later. Thankfully I love glitter, but if you don’t then perhaps Melusine unfortunately isn’t for you.
All in all, I can say without a doubt that Melusine is one of the best bath bombs I’ve ever used. The glitter is SO worth it as it’s such a beautiful colour. The scent, the design, the bath art – everything is truly amazing! I hope to god that this sees a UK release in the future because I need it again and again!
