Bath, Bath Bombs

Yuzu & Cocoa Bath Bomb

Another bath bomb that was voted for as part of the community favourites was one that is based on a discontinued fan-favourite shower gel, which in turn was based on a bubbleroon. Yuzu & Cocoa’s inspiration comes from a custom in Japan, where at winter solstice, they score the skin of a Yuzu fruit with a knife and drop one in the bath to release its oils and aroma. This is called ‘yuzuyu’ and Lush wanted to recreate this experience, with extra warmth and depth.

It’s been a long time since I smelled either the shower gel or the bubbleroon, so I was excited to recall the fragrance that I remember loving. As soon as I got my hands on it, the powerful heady perfume hit me and I fell in love once again. It’s definitely one of the strongest scented bath bombs I’ve come across in a while. I’ve had it in my room for two months now, sat with other products, but it continued to be the first and strongest aroma that hit my nose when I walk into my room. Also, the design is rather cute, as if it’s an actual Yuzu fruit with the Lush name engraved on the leaf.

Like the bubbleroon, Yuzu & Cocoa Bath Bomb doesn’t contain actual Yuzu Juice or the essential oil, but Lush replicate the citrus aroma with Grapefruit and Bergamot Oils. The warming ‘cocoa’ side comes from the addition of Tonka Absolute and Cocoa Absolute, making the whole scent deliciously chocolate-orange like with creamy, comforting notes of sweet vanilla from the Tonka. I feel like it’s a scent that must be smelled to really understand what I’m talking about. Although some people have pointed out that theres less of a chocolatey aroma within this format, I can’t really remember any different.

Once popped into the water, Yuzu & Cocoa starts fizzing rapidly and loudly, turning the bath water a gorgeous deep shade of warming orange. I was sad that there wasn’t any hidden colour in the middle which meant that there wasn’t really much of a display and before long, the bath bomb had vanished. However there was a delicate sprinkling of lustre floating throughout which was a nice touch.

Although I expected the strong scent to remain throughout, it honestly wasn’t that powerful once the fizzing stopped and I was disappointed to find my bath was pretty fragrance-less, but I’m happy that theres a nice hint of the scent on my skin now I’m out. On top of that, my skin feels super soft and when you look closely, it’s covered in a dusting of beautiful fine glitter so overall I’m happy and I’m really glad I got to experience this unique scent once again.
