When I first saw a picture of the Atmospheres, way before their initial release which honestly feels like forever ago, I was certain that they were Lush trying to be on trend and they were going to be Lush’s version of Tide Pods! Perhaps for the bath, or maybe Lush were going to be venturing into the laundry detergent market? Surely not? Even still they certainly looked exciting and I was eager to try them!
Fast forward to now and the Atmospheres have been out for a good while but I’m only just trying them now after being gifted them! I choose Love as the first one I used because I really like the Love scent! If you don’t know anything about the Atmospheres, they were designed with the concept of packaging free shower gels in mind and that’s basically what they are! These colourful squishy spheres are a single dose of shower gel wrapped in an environmentally-friendly layer of seaweed that can be washed down the plughole or popped on the compost heap! They’re packaged in recycled and recyclable box where you get four in each pack. Each one is meant to represent a goal as each Atmosphere releases a specific concoction of scents that help to focus your mind to bring into reality the things you chiefly desire – Love, Joy, Money or to Let Go.
The Love scent is a fragrance of apple orchards and sweet cider, it’s a spicy and sugary concoction of zesty Lemongrass and Bergamot and sweet Ylang-Ylang, with seductive and flirty notes from Jasmine and Rose Oils. It’s ambient scent is meant to provoke amorous thoughts and by laws of attraction, hopefully you’ll gain new found love! Oddly, although Love Atmosphere sure smells exactly like the perfume, it replaces Bergamot for Orange Flower and the Jasmine seems to have been removed for reasons unknown.
Once you pop open the seaweed casing, the gel easily spurts out and to my surprise was actually rather thick, consistency wise half way between a gel and a jelly! It looked nice and sparkly so I quickly rubbed it all over my body. I did find that perhaps due to the thickness, it was hard to get it to lather up a lot but that wasn’t a massive issue. For the future I’m definitely going to be more careful when bursting the casing as I did end up holding too much and losing a decent amount down the plughole!
Lush say that each Atmosphere is for one use only, but I reckon with the amount of gel inside them you can definitely save some for at least one more shower, though you might have to decant it into another container. It’s probably for the best too as currently each box is priced at £12 so you’re probably going to want to make them last as long as possible!
I did find that my skin was incredibly soft once I had used the product, likely due to the seaweed content, but a big negative was the fact that the scent had entirely disappeared once I had finished using it.
In conclusion, whilst the idea is great and I think that the Atmospheres are such a fantastic, innovative new product I really cannot justify spending £3 per shower, especially for something that didn’t really live up to the expectations so it seems unlikely I’ll be making a purchase again but stay tuned for posts on the other three Atmospheres soon!
