Lush’s Atmospheres were designed with the philosophical belief in ‘the law of attraction’ in mind. The law of attraction is the belief that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person’s life. The belief is based on the idea that people and their thoughts are both made from pure energy, and that through the process of energy attracting the same type of energy, a person can improve their own health, wealth, personal relationships etc. Each Atmosphere contains a specific concoction of scents that relate to four things you’re likely to desire – Love, Joy, Money or to Let Go. After a particularly stressful day, I chose Let Go to calm my mind and help me let go of my worries.
This particular Atmosphere is definitely the most simple of the four as scent-wise it contains nothing but Lavender Oil. Lavender’s floral and herbaceous scent has long been used in aromatherapy to relax and ease the mind and it’s also perfect for aiding a more restful sleep. The scent of Let Go is by far one of Lush’s purest Lavender scents and simply smells as though you were smelling a handful of actual lavender buds.
The Atmospheres are fantastically innovative, they’re actually doses of shower gel contained in a biodegradable seaweed casing and all you do is pop the casing and use the inside as a gel like normal. The consistency of the gel is a lot thicker than Lush’s generic shower gels and it can be hard to really get it to lather up, but I guess the thickness helps it stay in the casing easier. I do find that the two atmospheres I’ve used so far have both been very moisturising on my skin, leaving me feeling beautifully smooth after.
Another benefit of Lavender Oil is that it’s naturally anti-septic and therefore it helps to gently cleanse your skin. The Atmospheres also contain cleansing Sea Salt so they aren’t just a pretty smell, they do a good job too! Just be careful when you’re popping the ball as you can end up losing some down the plughole.
I’m a real sucker for Lavender scents, they really work on me so I definitely felt a lot calmer once I was out of the shower. Although Lush say that each Atmosphere is for one use only, I reckon with the amount of gel inside them you can definitely save some for at least one more shower, but even still it’s hard to justify spending £12 on just four showers which is where the main problem lies. It’s a great idea but I believe Lush need to make a couple of changes if they want to increase the Atmospheres’ popularity.
