Lush have recently been redesigning their entire make up range and we’re seeing solid foundations, naked highlighters, naked lipsticks and many more amazing and innovative products on offer whilst most of their previous make up products have been discontinued. However one thing that made the cut into the new range is Emotional Brilliance Face Powder. Emotional Brilliance was also the name of the core make up range that has now been phased out.
As a face powder, Emotional Brilliance is to be used after make up for a flawless finish. Saying that, it works just as well on your skin when you aren’t wearing make up and you can apply straight to the skin for a matte effect and to help even out the skin tone.
Emotional Brilliance is made up of Talc, Synthetic Mica and Tapioca Starch, and because of these powders’ absorbent properties, these are what gives you the smooth matte effect as they absorb the excess oils on the skin. Lush use Synthetic Mica in their products as opposed to natural mica because of concerns over child labour in its mining. Synthetic Mica is also purer and brighter than natural mica, and has a more uniform finish without any sharp edges making it perfect for use in make up products. A particular issue with the commercial use of talc is that it supposedly causes cancer, as well as the chances that it might be contaminated with asbestos. However Lush’s talc supplier uses a set of strict techniques to ensure that their talc is safe for cosmetic use.
Other than that, this mineral powder also contains Jojoba Oil, which is why you’ll find that Emotional Brilliance doesn’t seem at all drying for the skin. Jojoba Oil is very similar to the skin’s own sebum, allowing it to be readily absorbed into the skin without clogging the pores, and balances out the oil production also.
Although it’s translucent, Lush have ben called out for not being inclusive with this powder, so you’ll be pleased to know that they’ve recently released two extra powders for darker skin tones currently exclusive to the new Liverpool Spa store. Furthermore, you might not realise it, but the pot that Emotional Brilliance comes in can be traded in as part of Lush’s five black pot recycling scheme! So make sure you’re saving it for your free face mask!
I’m super impressed with this powder, I’ve been using it for a while now and it really suits my skin and looks great over the make up I wear. I know it’s slightly on the expensive side but you can always ask lush to give you a little sample so you can try it out for yourself!
