Whilst Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub has been around forever, we’ve never really had any other varieties of a salt based scrub that have the same unique properties as it. Until recently that is, with the releases of Magic Crystals, Scrub Scrub Scrub and now a limited edition Mothers Day exclusive, Mamma Mia!
As a shower scrub, Mamma Mia contains a hefty amount of Sea Salt and Himalayan Salt, which acts as the exfoliants. Also known as rock salt, Himalayan Salt is mined from the earth in the Himalayan region. It’s not so different from ordinary salt, except for its beautiful streaked pink hues painted by natural minerals and metal elements like calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper, and iron. Mamma Mia then features Water, Pink Grapefruit Puree and a Pink Grapefruit Peel Decoction which gives the product its wet texture, like Rub Rub Rub.
Grapefruit is an amazing ingredient for cleansing and refreshing the skin due to the enzymes that are present in the fruit’s natural acids. A grapefruit’s high vitamin C content also works wonders for the skin, helping to firm, smooth and brighten. Mamma Mia also contains Rose Clay in the mix for its natural cleansing power.
Grapefruits have a sweet citrus aroma, which is popular for lifting the mood and has been used extensively to clear the mind and help with stress. But Mamma Mia doesn’t exactly smell like grapefruit, it’s actually sweetly scented with Vanilla, Rosewood and Bergamot.
Honestly, I cannot express how much I love the scent of this scrub. It’s a moreish decadent scent and I plead for more products like it! The sweet, creamy Vanilla is the main note you get from the aroma, whist the deeper notes of the Rosewood give hints of wood and rose and in the background you can detect a subtle fresh, citrusy hint of the Grapefruit and Bergamot. It’s truly a rich and luxurious delight and one of the best scents Lush have released in recent times in my opinion.
You can either use this scrub when you’re already wet in the shower, or apply to dry skin for a tougher scrub before rinsing away. But either way, once it mixes with the water, it lathers up a little, like a shower gel would and feels amazingly soft on your skin. I found Mamma Mia actually rather gentle and didn’t feel as abrasive as I was expecting, but still, my skin felt just as smooth. Under the hot water, the gorgeous scent is lifted and filled the shower area which made me just want to pour the whole tub all over me and relish in it! Thankfully there was still a hint of the sweet perfume on my skin a good couple of hours later, which was actually giving me more hints of grapefruit.
Overall, I’m super impressed with this shower scrub. I love the smell, I love the bright pink colour and it’s easily one of the stand outs of the Mother’s Day release. I’m going to be absolutely gutted when it leaves the shelves. I’m really hoping Lush decide to bring it back next year as it’s simply, beautiful. Or you know, it could always stay for good? I’d even take it over Rub Rub Rub and that’s saying something. Top marks!
