Ah the Free Ranger, back again this year but only in the one colour as opposed to last year’s three. It’s no surprise as they were’t massively popular last year and the Pink/Purple colour scheme was clearly the best. As with every Lush product to feature eyes, you can come across some really hilarious expressions.
Free Ranger is actually two bath bombs in one, as the top half and bottom half separate for you to use in two separate baths if you wish. Each half of the free ranger is scented with Bergamot Oil, Blackcurrant Absolute and Cypress Oil, which gives the bath bomb(s) a sweet and uplifting scent not too dissimilar to The Comforter. Blackcurrant has a fairly strong and fruity scent that reminds me of the squash I used to drink when I was a child, yet it also has a fresh and green note, which is highlighted by the Bergamot and Cypress Oils. All three of these ingredients are known to have mood-boosting affects on the mind, clearing anxiety and easing troubles.
I decided to use the whole Free Ranger in my bath and it’s an incredibly fast and loud fizzer. Without any Cream of Tartar in its mix, this one is a pure fizzer, without any of the foam the aforementioned ingredient creates. There wasn’t much in terms of bath art, but it was nice to watch the two halves quickly dissolve as they floated around the tub and before long the water had turned a vivid translucent pink colour. Almost immediately after the fizzing had began, the sweet fragrance filled the air around me.
If you’re wondering what the eyes are made from, they’re candy! So if you really wanted to, you could actually eat them; though I wouldn’t recommend it, they have been attached to the bath bomb for some time. Otherwise they simply dissolve in the water too.
Once I was in, I could still smell the fruity Blackcurrant aroma although it was gradually dissipating. The longer I soaked in the water, the more I could feel my mood elevating and it invoked a sense of playfulness and carefreeness. Afterwards, my skin felt soft and cleansed and although there was a slight hint of the scent still covering my body, it wasn’t anywhere as near as heady as it once was. I’d say I noticed more woody tones of the Cypress Oil in the scent on my skin than before.
In conclusion, Free Ranger is a fairly simple bath bomb but with a lovely fruity sweet scent. It makes a great little Easter gift for a child especially if you’re trying to stay away from chocolate! Like all Easter products, Free Ranger will be disappearing from shops before long so make sure you get your hands on one before the season is out.
