Sleepy Face Naked Cleansing Balm

Out of all the naked cleansing balms Lush released earlier this year, Sleepy Face was probably the one I wasn’t that excited about trying as it’s mainly designed for people with more sensitive skin in mind and to calm and soothe. My skin isn’t particular sensitive, nor does it get easily irritated so Sleepy Face isn’t something I’d usually go for, but nevertheless, I’ll give anything a go once.

Sleepy Face was designed around Lush’s best selling body lotion, Sleepy. It contains many of the same ingredients such as Illipe Butter, Lavender, Almond Oil and Oat Milk to name a few and therefore has the same incredibly soothing and calming effects as its predecessor.

Sleepy Face has a base comprised of three luxurious butters: Cocoa, Shea and Illipe. These gorgeously hydrating butters all have slightly different melting points which gives the cleanser a richly oily texture when in use, but allows it to retain its pretty solid shape. Each cleansing balm melts with the skin’s temperature so there’s no need to add water to get them going.

The pink colour of this product is completely natural, thanks to a herb called Alkanet, which has been extracted in organic Jojoba Oil. Alkanet itself has both antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties whilst the Jojoba Oil sinks deep into the skin to add hydration and helps to balance out the skin’s sebum production.

Lavender is also incredibly balancing for the skin and is a wonderful ingredient to help soothe redness and irritation. It also has a soothing effect for the mind, which is why you see it feature in so many of Lush’s more ‘relaxing’ products, including Sleepy Body Lotion, which helps to promote a peaceful sleep.

Oat Milk is another ingredient used for its impressive soothing and calming effects. Oats have been used for thousands of years as a way to soothe and gently treat the skin topically. The milk they produce is rich and nourishing with highly protective qualities.

Lastly, Sleepy Face contains Almond Oil which is moisturising and packed with vitamin E to maintain healthy and glowing skin.

Oddly enough, Sleepy Face kinda smells like a rich dark chocolate with a hint of floral Lavender. It’s probably the Cocoa Butter along with the Oat Milk that give it this creamy aroma that I’m actually really loving.

On the skin it feels gentle, yet super nourishing. You use a cleansing balm by swiping it over your face until enough of the residue is covering your skin, massage it in and wipe off with a damp face cloth or cotton pad. The oils it leaves behind really do sink in easily and it left my skin feeling fairly hydrated and cleansed.

Although I’d probably not go for Sleepy Face again once mine has run out, I can appreciate why some people are raving over it because of how gentle and effective it is. I’ve actually noticed a spot on my cheek has reduced in size over the past few days since I’ve started using it, so that’s a fab bonus. I can also imagine it would be great in the summer to soothe red and sunburnt skin so if I really catch the sun one day, maybe I’ll give it another go!
