Big Blue has been a classic Lush bath bomb for a long time. It was designed to mimic the relaxing experience of being in shallow ocean waters, complete with lots of sea salt and strands of seaweed too. Even the gorgeous scent evokes the feeling of a summer day at the seaside.
Big Blue’s fragrance is made up of Lemon Oil, Lavender Oil and Seaweed Absolute. I love this scent, it’s equally calming and refreshing and really puts you in a good headspace, whilst helping you unwind. It’s got a strong spa-like aroma so its no surprise that Lush use Big Blue as room fragrance in some of their spa treatments. The Lemon and the Lavender intertwine nicely into a fresh, somewhat citrusy, somewhat floral scent, whilst the addition of Seaweed Absolute gives the overall ‘oceanic’ note and ties it all together nicely.
Once popped into the water, there’s no foam or bath art whatsoever as Big Blue is a plain old fizzer, but it more than makes up for that. The whole thing is over fairly quickly but you’re left with a gorgeous turquoise blue water with lots and lots of Arame Seaweed strands floating in it. The Arame that Lush use comes from southeastern Japan, where it’s actually hand gathered by women known as ‘Ama’. The average age of the Ama is around 70 years old which is impressive because the women dive as deep as 20m without the use of any breathing apparatus in cold waters.
Arame Seaweed is naturally rich in vitamins and minerals which are highly beneficial for the skin. Along with the Seaweed Absolute, it helps to soothe and soften the skin and infuse the water with its goodness.
The water that Big Blue produces is incredibly soft. The amount of Sea Salt really makes the water feel so luxurious and you really can feel the difference. Like seaweed, Sea Salt is also full of minerals like sodium and magnesium. It doesn’t just soften the water, but your skin too. Both Lemon Oil and Lavender Oil have cleansing and antiseptic properties on the skin, so they’re not just there for the pretty smell either.
I could spend hours in a bath with a Big Blue, I find it so relaxing and calming. It’s also kinda fun to swish the water around and watch as the seaweed disperses itself around your bath. Each time I bathe with one my skin feels so good once I’m dry, it’s always super soft and I can never keep myself from stroking it. The scent has amazing longevity too and I still smell it on myself hours after my bath.
I doubt Lush have no plans to get rid of this bath bomb anytime soon, but if they ever do I’ll honestly be so sad. I also think it’s about time we had, maybe a Big Blue Body Spray? I imagine it would be pretty popular! Yes please Lush!
