Karma Perfume

There’s no doubt about it. Karma is one of Lush’s most famous and most popular fragrances. Inspired by the scents of Kensington High Street in the 1960s it’s a unique and distinctive perfume with notes of oranges, spices and patchouli.

The 1960’s were the time of hippies and something that’s well associated with stereotypically long haired, psychedelic print wearing, carefree hippies is Patchouli Oil. Why exactly? Well, there’s a few reasons.

Patchouli has a very earthy aroma and it was often used back then (and now) in meditation as a way of connecting deeper into nature and the earth. Also, hippies were nicknamed the love generation, and patchouli was endorsed for its ability to relieve stress and increase libido. Lastly, patchouli was often used to mask the smell of marijuana! It would seem patchouli is the ideal ingredient in a perfume designed to mimic that era.

The next ingredient in Karma is Brazilian Orange Oil, which has a bight and sunny smell, perfect for lifting the mood and adds citrusy middle notes to the fragrance.

We then have Lavendin Oil which comes from a lavender hybrid plant but features the same strong and herbal scent that’s well known to relax the mind. Next comes fresh and woody Pine Oil, crisp and aromatic Lemongrass, sharp citrusy Elemi Oil (reputed to cause a feeling of peace) and lastly Cassie Absolute, with its spicy and floral scent.

Karma is definitely a complex perfume but splitting it into three parts I find you have a top note of earthy and meditative patchouli, a hint of citrus and then warming, aromatic incense-like aromas in the background. It’s a sunny and cheerful scent, with the ability to calm and relax and really get you feeling those good vibes. It works well as a perfume and will definitely get someone asking about it!

I won’t say I’m a massive Karma fan, but that’s not to say I don’t like it; I can definitely appreciate it and each time I smell it I’m reminded how good it actually is. I find you can wear Karma day or night, in the summer or the winter and it doesn’t matter. It’s really for anyone and everyone who likes it and to wear whenever they want.

Karma is probably the most featured scent in all of Lush’s products but the people sure do love it!
