Honey Lip Scrub

Honey Lip Scrub is currently Lush’s only non-vegan lip scrub because it contains the very ingredient it’s named after. Honey is often mistaken as being a vegan-friendly product because there’s a common misconception that bees produce honey for no real reason, but it’s actually their main food source.

Now I’m not trying to turn anyone vegan with this post, I myself am not a vegan, although I follow a mainly vegan diet and strongly believe everyone should at least try and aim for the same. Honey is arguably one of the easiest things to swap out for vegan alternatives such as Agave Nectar or Maple Syrup. Luckily, Lush buy their honey from farmers and communities that they totally trust and are confident that they treat their animals with the utmost respect and care. To the point where if something slips out of place and they aren’t happy with the standards, they will cease manufacturing of products until another source becomes available. Personally I do think Lush is on its way to becoming a 100% vegan company, they’ve already removed eggs from their products and I’m sure will follow suit with honey and beeswax soon.

I find Honey Lip Scrub to be one of the more moisturising lip scrubs, because of this honey content. Honey is a natural humectant, which means it protects and retains moisture into the skin. This lip scrub also contains hydrating Jojoba Oil (as all lip scrubs do).

In terms of it’s scent and flavour, Honey has a sweet caramel-like smell with cool hints of mint. It contains Vegan White Chocolate and soothing Vanilla Absolute for a sweet and delicious taste with a subtle juiciness of Sweet Wild Orange Oil. The minty notes come from the inclusion of Spearmint Oil which acts as a stimulant. It’s a relatively nice taste, though far too sweet for continuous use in my opinion.

Because of that Spearmint Oil, Honey Lip Scrub is supposedly great for plumping up the lips, though I can’t say I notice too much of a difference after using it. All in all, Honey is a pretty decent lip scrub, though I reckon its lifetime is a lot shorter than some of the other ones in the range if Lush really are heading in the vegan direction.
