Bath, Fun

Apple Fun

When I last visited Lush Liverpool Spa, AKA the newest and biggest UK flagship store, I was gifted three of their exclusive bars of fun to try for myself. I had Flamingo, Thunderbolt and lastly, I had Apple. Although So White Bath Bomb has been around for some time now, I’ve never got to try it’s scent in a bath format and considering it’s so unique, I was really excited to experience it.

As I mentioned, Apple Fun shares it’s scent with the crisp apple-y fragrance of So White Bath Bomb, Once Upon A Time Body Lotion and Santa’s Belly Shower Jelly. Although Once Upon A Time changes up the ingredients slightly, usually this scent is comprised of Bergamot, Brazilian Orange, Orange Flower, Rose and Neroli. It’s a refreshing and uplifting aroma that really does remind you of biting into a crisp green apple and I feel like it really works in this ‘fun’ format. I really didn’t enjoy this scent at first but it grows on me more and more each time I encounter it.

Lush market their bars of fun as four-in-one products, but I’d actually say they have five uses. The base of Cornflour, Talc and Glycerine gives the fun a unique malleable texture and feels very much like modelling clay, meaning the first use is that you can actually mould your own shapes and models. Add a surfactant or lathering agent such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate, which cleanses dirt and grease effectively, then you have a mouldable soap, which can be used for gently washing your body or your hair as shampoo, giving you two more uses. The fourth use is that you can use a bar of fun in the same way you’d use a bubble bar and crumble under running water to fill your bath with soft bubbles, which is usually how I use mine. I mentioned a possible fifth use and that would be for shaving. Stroking a piece of fun across wet skin leaves behind a thick and creamy lather that actually works amazingly well as a shaving soap, so I know a great deal of people who use fun for this reason too.

I decided to do what I always do with fun and use about two thirds to create bubbles in my bath and use the remainder to actually wash myself with. If you didn’t want to use the whole thing at once, no problem, you just break off as much as you need and store the rest away in it’s compostable wrapper. It can get quite messy if it gets wet so I’d make sure you definitely decide how much you’re going to use beforehand.

Apple produced super soft bath water although I didn’t seem to get many bubbles out of it, but that isn’t that unusual for fun. The water started off mimicking the same bright shade of green as the bar itself but as it got deeper, it naturally lost most of its pigment. Sadly, though the actual bar is pretty strongly scented, the aroma seemed to disappear into the water but it made a return to linger on my skin slightly once I was out.

Like fun always does, Apple left my skin feeling soft, nicely cleansed and smooth. All in all I’m really happy I got to use it and if you’re a fan of So White, you’re bound to love this too.
