Lemony Flutter is probably Lush’s thickest, creamiest lotion available. It’s designed to soften and protect your cuticles and nourish your nails. I have AWFUL cuticles and whilst I’m really bad at remembering to use this product, it actually does wonders.
The cuticle plays an important role in the health of your nails. They provide a protective cover for the tissue that grows new cells that build the nails. As you know, your nails are constantly growing – that’s why you have to keep clipping them. Taking care of your cuticles is important because it can lead to stronger, healthier nails and if you neglect them, your cuticles can cause some problems, including painful infections.
For healthy cuticles and nails, you need to cleanse, moisturise and protect them. Luckily, Lemony Flutter does all three! It cleanses with the help of antibacterial and antiseptic Lemon Infusion and Lemon Oil which eats away dead skin cells (and also gives the product its gorgeously zingy scent).
For adding moisture and keeping the cuticles hydrated, Lemony Flutter contains a whole host of amazingly beneficial ingredients. Blended Shea and Mango Butters make the product feel luxuriously creamy. Shea is richly nourishing and Mango Butter is filled with antioxidants and vitamins with damage-repairing properties.
It further contains a bunch of rich carrier oils that contain high amounts of beneficial fatty acids. Soya Oil is rich in oleic and linoleic acids, whereas Castor Oil is high in ricinoleic acid, as well as oleic. These substances are proven to be highly moisturising and conditioning on the skin. Linoleic acid helps to maintain the structure of our skin and oleic acid is one of the most beneficial substances for our internal and external health. Ricinoleic acid is wonderfully soothing.
Wheatgerm Oil offers twice as much vitamin E as most other vegetable oils, which is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and analgesic (pain reliving). Lemony Flutter also contains Coconut Oil, Linseed Oil and Avocado Oil too.
Lastly, to ensure your clean and hydrated cuticles are protected, Lush have incorporated both Beeswax and Lanolin into this product. Lanolin (or wool wax) is highly emollient and really easily sinks into the skin. Both it, and Beeswax create a protective film over the skin.
As I mentioned, Lemony Flutter’s aroma is zesty and lemony. But if you smell deeper, you’ll notice some herbal and floral elements hiding behind the tart Lemon. These come from the addition of Chamomile Blue Oil, Lavender Oil and Tagetes Oil, all of which are well known to have soothing and calming effects too.
Although it was created as a ‘Cuticle Butter’ because of its amazingly moisturising properties it’s really great to use on dry elbows, knees, heels or anywhere you need it. This really is a miracle product. I just need to keep telling myself to use it!
