Skin’s Shangri La Facial Moisturiser

With Tibetan origins, a Shangri-La is described as a paradise of complete bliss, delight and peace, especially one seen as an escape from ordinary life. This moisturiser definitely takes your skin to it’s happy place for a wholly rejuvenating experience.

I first started using Skin’s Shangri La when I was looking for a night cream and it was excellent in that role. It’s a really rich moisturiser that’s perfect for someone with dry skin, mature skin, or skin that’s in need of some extra TLC.

The main ingredient is an odd one. It’s something called ‘Queen of Hungary Water’, which is a distilled product made up of rosemary and alcohol and is what ended up as the basis for the world’s first alcohol based perfume. The legend goes that this ‘tonic’ was made for Queen Elisabeth of Hungary (1305-1380), but there are some conflicting facts and legends about the exact date of invention, and even conflicts about whom the potion was originally made for.

For a youthful appearance, one was supposed to drink the tonic, rub it on the skin, inhale it and bathe in it. Rosemary is rich with antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties whilst vodka is astringent and toning, minimising the appearance of pores. Lush included this interesting ingredient because this moisturiser is a step towards a healthy and youthful appearance.

Skin’s Shangri La is full of many antioxidants. Antioxidants are perfect for mature or damaged skin as they do a lot for the health and appearance of the skin, including reducing the signs of ageing. Fresh Wheatgrass is rich in nourishing vitamins and protein, great for promoting cell regeneration; Wheatgerm Oil to plump the skin and Almond Oil is another vitamin rich ingredient that is also incredibly hydrating .

We also have a great deal of moisturising ingredients such as the Almond Oil; conditioning Jojoba Oil, which is easily absorbed by the skin; highly nutritious Toothed Wrack Seaweed, which helps the skin to retain moisture; protective Beeswax and deeply conditioning Cocoa Butter and Coconut Oil.

Because it’s an incredibly rich cream, I’d personally prefer to use it in the evenings to rejuvenate my skin over night. Though dryer and mature skins could get away with using it as part of their morning routines. It’s also a great moisturiser to use during the Winter as it’s great for protecting the skin against the bitter cold!

After using, I not only feel intensely hydrated but incredibly soothed as well. Skin’s Shangri La also features Aloe Vera Gel and Evening Primrose Oils to help calm any irritation or redness.

This is one of Lush’s more scented moisturisers so for someone who dislikes too much of a smell for their face then perhaps this isn’t for you. Though saying that, it is a lovely scent of nutty vanillary goodness.

Skin Drink Facial Moisturiser

Thirsty skin? Give it a protecting drink!

img_6683

Skin Drink does exactly what it says on the tin, or rather pot, it quenches thirsty and dry skin.

The main ingredients are all expertly moisturising, meaning this cream is packed with nourishment. Sesame Oil is rich in vitamin E which helps the skin to stay soft and firm, it also contains a natural preservative called sesamol, helping keep this product free from oxidising and going off. Fresh Avocado and Almond Oil are both full of vitamins too, giving the skin the nourishment it needs and helping with cell regeneration. Cocoa Butter tops off the list with it’s perfect softening properties.

Skin Drink also contains both Aloe Vera Extract and Aloe Vera Gel, meaning this moisturiser is very effective at helping soothe any irritation and redness on the skin. Rose Petal Infusion is also soothing and calming but is also toning, which is good for reducing the size of pores.

The scent is a very subtle floral trio of Neroli, Evening Primrose and Rose, meaning it’s not too strong for anyone with sensitive noses. Evening Primrose is also a wonderful ingredient helping to protect and lock in the skin’s moisture.

The consistency of Skin Drink is quite thick and quite buttery as opposed to greasy or oily so it glides on smoothly and get to work straight away. Due to the high content of Sesame Oil, after it sinks in, it leaves an almost unnoticible protective layer on top of the skin which is perfect for combating the elements or for skin that gets easily damaged from wind or the cold.

Gorgeous Facial Moisturiser

IMG_6480.jpg

The top dog of the moisturiser family. She’s expensive but she’s worth it. The creators didn’t hold back when creating Gorgeous, they added the best ingredients to create this beautiful face cream with no expense spared. Apparently, Lush co-founder Mark Constantine once met Princess Diana, and based his formula for this cream on her favourite moisturiser she had shown him!

This moisturiser is light, but highly effective. Freshly juiced Pineapple, Orange and Lemon juice mean this face cream is good for anyone with oily skin as fresh fruit tends to be enzymic, which means it helps break down the excess oils and dead skin cells and refine your pores, leaving you gorgeously matte. However, the addition of Avocado Oil, Olive Oil, nourishing Wheatgerm Oil and Orange Blossom Honey Water mean that Gorgeous doesn’t leave you feeling dry, just perfectly moisturised.

Avocado Oil, and also Evening Primrose Oil are a great combination to help reduce age spots and scarring. The oils from the cold-pressed avocados are full of vitamins and proteins meaning it’s the perfect restorative ingredient and the nutrient rich Evening Primrose Oil is good for soothing and calming any irritation and redness.

The smell is a tad strong, so for those who don’t like scented creams on their face then maybe that’s a con rather than a pro. But with all these lovely benefits, you could definitely look past it.

Anyone who comes into the store asking for something to help with acne scars, I will definitely show them Gorgeous. At £42.50 it’s a steep price to pay but I definitely think it’s worth it, and the countless customers that come back for it time and time again can’t be wrong either!
