Imperialis is a facial moisturiser designed for skin that can’t make up its mind. It’s full of balancing ingredients to help sort out the skin’s oil production. My own skin is what I’d call relatively ‘normal’ yet occasionally I find myself with dryer sections and sometimes an excess oil problem, so Imperialis is ultimately my favourite daytime moisturiser.
Imperialis is a relatively light cream that I find is really easily absorbed by the skin with a hydrating base made from Olive Oil and Cocoa and Shea Butters. Because Imperialis is a great moisturiser for all, it doesn’t feel heavy and doesn’t leave any excess oils on the skin.
The remaining ingredients are mostly all infusions and extracts from many different plants, some of which have been used for centuries to restore and revive skin.
The first two ingredients in this face cream are Lavender Flower Infusion and Mullein Leaf Infusion. Lavender is arguably one of the best ingredients to help balance out sebum production of the skin and is also amazing at soothing irritation. Mullein is considered a weed and grows on uncultivated land and is included thanks to its soothing and toning action.
Orange Flower is included in both an absolute form, and distilled in water. I’d say it’s one of the main ingredients that lends it’s natural scent to the cream and is refreshing and mattifying for the skin.
Brunello lilies are one of many lily hybrids and belong to the same family as onion, leeks and garlic, which is why the plant has a similar antimicrobial quality to garlic. Lush take fresh Brunello Lily Petals, chop them very finely, strain them, and add the liquid to the product. Lilies are said to have astringent, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.
Lastly, extracts from St John’s Wort, Sunflower Petals, Alkanet, Elderflower and Sweet Violet have been included for their soothing, calming and anti-inflammatory qualities too.
Honestly I’ve used so many moisturisers in the past and it wasn’t until I tried Imperialis that I stopped looking. It not only hydrates my skin perfectly but it doesn’t leave my face looking too oily and for someone who prefers a matte look, it’s great. I find that any redness or irritation is completely gone the next day after wearing it too. Although sometimes I still get the occasional day where my ‘combination’ skin is back in full force, it’s gotten so much better since I started wearing this gorgeous cream.
