Aqua Marina Fresh Cleanser

Aqua Marina is one of Lush’s fresh cleansers. This creamy product is full of fresh ingredients straight from the sea and is designed to calm sensitive and irritated skin.

Unlike the other Fresh Cleansers on offer, Aqua Marina has a very different consistency, it’s more creamy and has the texture of a soft clay, however you do use it in the same way as the others, by taking a pinch and adding water until you get a paste.

With a base of Glycerine, Kaolin and Calamine Powder, Aqua Marina is really cleansing, but in a gentle way. Kaolin is perfect for absorbing excess oils and sebum on the skin and helps give the product it’s texture. As well as being an effective cleanser, Calamine is also excellently absorbent and is one of the best ingredients for soothing irritated, red and delicate skin.

As you can see, Aqua Marina literally has whole chunks of seaweed in it. Seaweed is a fantastic mineral-rich ingredient with many different uses. It’s not only calming for any inflammation and redness, but is also great at nourishing and softening the skin. Lush use two types of seaweed in this product, Irish Moss (in gel and powdered form) and Nori. Similar to seaweed, added Aloe Vera also soothes, softens and moisturises.

Although it’s relatively undetectable, Aqua Marina does have Fine Sea Salt mixed in to it, creating a really gentle and small exfoliant. Because of this be weary when putting it on freshly shaved faces or legs because it can sting!

This fresh cleanser has a very ‘oceanic’ scent shall we say, due to the seaweed and calamine content. Although Orange and Patchouli seem to be added to combat the slightly fishy smell, they don’t seem to do much work. Luckily, both these essential oils aren’t totally useless, they also add to the antiseptic and toning qualities of this cleanser.

I think Aqua Marina is one of the best products to use if you’re dealing with red, puffy, itchy skin, or any irritation or rashes just because it’s so effective at calming the skin down and has benefits for both oily and dry skin types. Personally I find Aqua Marina to be greatly mattefying but can be a tad drying, so be sure to use a good moisturiser afterwards if you’re someone with dryer skin. I use some whenever I get rashes due to the change in weather/temperature and it works like a charm!

Mask of Magnaminty Face and Body Mask

Mask of Magnaminty is one of Lush’s best sellers. It’s a minty, multi purpose mask that has been around for a long while and people come back for it time and time again.

Mask of Magnaminty is a mask that you can use all over your body and not just your face. Now I don’t see why you couldn’t use all masks over your body too, but this one is specifically made for both.

Like all face (and body) masks you apply Mask of Magnaminty to the desired area and leave on for ten to fifteen minutes, before washing off with warm water.

Mineral-rich Bentone Gel and Kaolin form the mask’s base. Both of these clay based ingredients are great at absorbing any excess oils and sebum on the skin, however this doesn’t mean that Mask of Mag is drying. The addition of lots of antibacterial honey makes this mask rather hydrating as well.

Ground Aduki Beans and Evening Primrose Seeds make up the mask’s effective exfoliant. It’s great for polishing the skin and clearing dead skin cells when removing the mask, but because it’s such a gentle scrub, it’s perfect for anyone troubling with irritation after a stronger exfoliation.

The minty scent comes from Peppermint Oil, which has been added to stimulate blood cells under the surface of the skin, leaving your skin looking healthier and refreshed. It also gives Mask of Mag a lovely cooling, tingling feeling when it’s on.

This product also contains Chlorophyllin, which helps balance the skin’s sebum production and is what gives Mask of Magnaminty it’s fresh green colour.

img_1378

I agree with the many who love Mask of Magnaminty. It’s so refreshing for my skin and it feels a lot more rejuvenated afterwards. I use it whenever I get breakouts, especially on my chest because of the great spot fighting qualities it has!

You can check out Mask of Magnaminty for yourself on the Lush UK website.

Ingredients

Bentone Gel, Kaolin, Honey, Talc, Organic Ground Aduki Beans, Glycerine, Evening Primrose Seeds, Peppermint Oil, Tagetes Oil, Vanilla Absolute, Limonene, Perfume, Chlorophyllin, Methylparaben

SELF PRESERVING ALERT

Lush also make this product in a self preserving variety, which means it helps keep itself clean and fresh without the help of synthetic preservatives.

The original formula contains something called Methylparaben, which is a safe synthetic preservative. The use of parabens have been very controversial in recent years because of a 2004 study which found traces of parabens in breast cancer tumours. This formed the basis of a theory that parabens, which can weakly mimic the hormone oestrogen, can disrupt hormones and increase the risk of breast cancer. However, further studies have found no evidence to support this. In spite of believing them to be safe, Lush use a much less quantity than what the EU regulations even permits. Read a fantastic article about all this here.

Nonetheless, Lush created a self preserving version of Mask of Magnaminty to ensure customers happiness and for those still unsure on their stance.

In this version, more Honey has been added to act as the preservative because it’s naturally antibacterial. The extra honey in this formula gives the mask a more luxurious, thicker texture than its preserved counterpart – meaning it does not dry on your skin in the same way as the preserved version. Though really, it’s all down to personal preference.

Skin’s Shangri La Facial Moisturiser

With Tibetan origins, a Shangri-La is described as a paradise of complete bliss, delight and peace, especially one seen as an escape from ordinary life. This moisturiser definitely takes your skin to it’s happy place for a wholly rejuvenating experience.

img_0903

I first started using Skin’s Shangri La when I was looking for a night cream and it was excellent in that role. It’s a really rich moisturiser that’s perfect for someone with dry skin, mature skin, or skin that’s in need of some extra TLC.

The main ingredient is an odd one. It’s something called ‘Queen of Hungary Water’, which is a distilled product made up of rosemary and alcohol and is what ended up as the basis for the world’s first alcohol based perfume. The legend goes that this ‘tonic’ was made for Queen Elisabeth of Hungary (1305-1380), but there are some conflicting facts and legends about the exact date of invention, and even conflicts about whom the potion was originally made for.

For a youthful appearance, one was supposed to drink the tonic, rub it on the skin, inhale it and bathe in it. Rosemary is rich with antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties whilst vodka is astringent and toning, minimising the appearance of pores. Lush included this interesting ingredient because this moisturiser is a step towards a healthy and youthful appearance.

Skin’s Shangri La is full of many antioxidants. Antioxidants are perfect for mature or damaged skin as they do a lot for the health and appearance of the skin, including reducing the signs of ageing. Fresh Wheatgrass is rich in nourishing vitamins and protein, great for promoting cell regeneration; Wheatgerm Oil to plump the skin and Almond Oil is another vitamin rich ingredient that is also incredibly hydrating .

We also have a great deal of moisturising ingredients such as the Almond Oil; conditioning Jojoba Oil, which is easily absorbed by the skin; highly nutritious Toothed Wrack Seaweed, which helps the skin to retain moisture; protective Beeswax and deeply conditioning Cocoa Butter and Coconut Oil.

img_1183

Because it’s an incredibly rich cream, I’d personally prefer to use it in the evenings to rejuvenate my skin over night. Though dryer and mature skins could get away with using it as part of their morning routines. It’s also a great moisturiser to use during the Winter as it’s great for protecting the skin against the bitter cold!

After using, I not only feel intensely hydrated but incredibly soothed as well. Skin’s Shangri La also features Aloe Vera Gel and Evening Primrose Oils to help calm any irritation or redness.

This is one of Lush’s more scented moisturisers so for someone who dislikes too much of a smell for their face then perhaps this isn’t for you. Though saying that, it is a lovely scent of nutty vanillary goodness.

No Trouble (For Beards And Stubble) Naked Beard Oil

To my knowledge, this product was the first of it’s kind. Before the release of the Fathers Day 2018 range, Lush had never attempted a beard oil.

img_0809

Although this product is specifically a beard oil, there is no reason why it couldn’t be used as simply a facial oil for those without beards, and in this post I’ll be explaining how the different ingredients work on the hairs and also the skin.

No Trouble is made with a base of Illipe Butter which has been used for centuries to nourish and restore skin’s vitality, and guess what? It does the same for your hair too! The nuts of the illipe tree are 50% fat, which makes the butter they produce one of the most nourishing.

The next ingredient is mineral and vitamin rich Apricot Kernel Oil, obtained by cold pressing the stones of apricots which releases a velvety oil that softens and seals in moisture for both the skin and the hair. Along with moisturising Jojoba Oil and Olive Oil, No Trouble is perfect for giving you fabulously soft skin and a beard to match! With daily use the fears of a spiky beard are long gone.

Because of the Illipe base, this beard oil has no trouble melting against the skin’s temperature. To use you either melt it between your fingers and smooth the lovely oils over your skin or you glide the whole product straight on your face. Personally I think the latter works better as it allows you to use the right amount. Even doing this, the little bottle shaped product will surely last you half a year at least.

No Trouble (For Beards And Stubble) also has a really nice scent to it. It’s a mixture of Neroli, Sandalwood and Cedarwood so it’s a rather earthy and woody smell. I guess for a product that’s more targeted to the ∼male∼ population, it suits it very well. Sandalwood and Neroli are also known for their skin soothing effects and Cedarwood is great for sorting the excess sebum (oil) production out for both skin and hair.

I personally loved this product so much, I gifted it to all the males in my life and kept a couple for me too as I know, like a lot of seasonal exclusive products you never know whether they’ll come back the year after or not. I really hope this one does and actually I think it would be a great year-rounder, even if it’s just online.

Ingredients

Organic Illipe Butter, Apricot Kernel Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Perfume, Cedarwood Oil, Neroli Oil, Sandalwood Oil, Paprika Oleoresin, Citral, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool, Coumarin, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde

Mortal Kombu Under Eye Mask

As someone who suffers with v bad dark circles, I’m always on the look out for something to combat this. When Lush unveiled this product for the first time for the UK at their Manchester Lush Showcase I had to get my hands on one.

img_1082

The best thing about Mortal Kombu is how simple it is. It literally is just a piece of seaweed. No packaging. No hassle. Honestly what can’t seaweed do?

This innovative product is cut from 100% sustainable, mineral rich Kombu Seaweed which is sourced in Japan. The growers and harvesters know the importance of maintaining the environment of their kelp forests to keep their business sustainable, this is why they work on numerous marine conservation projects and do regular beach and seabed cleaning. Kombu Seaweed, like all seaweed, is perfect for its toning and calming effects on the skin.

To use you simply soak the mask in warm water (such as in the bath) for a few minutes to allow the seaweed to moisten and thicken, then separate along the perforation into two halves which fit neatly under the eyes. Leave on for around ten minutes then remove and massage in the soothing seaweed gel left behind.

mortal_kombu_seaweed_eyemask_lush_labs-3.jpg

The mask really feels super nice on the skin once applied, I left mine on for more like twenty minutes because it felt so good! A great thing about this mask is that unlike some eye masks, Mortal Kombu gives you the option of keeping your eyes open!

Infused into the seaweed we also have Witch Hazel Extract and Green Tea Infusion and Extract. Witch Hazel is ideal to maintain healthy skin as it prevents bacteria growth and is known for it’s anti-inflammatory and astringent properties. And like when you drink Green Tea for it’s antioxidant quality, it has the same effect on the skin, leaving it soothed, clear and firm.

As already mentioned, once you remove the masks you’re left with a lovely gel on your skin that is great to rub all into your under eye area and because it produces quite a lot, you can do your whole face too! My eyes feel so rejuvenated after this mask and the skin there feels noticeably healthier and stronger.

Although you can purchase this product at the Naked Shops in Milan and now recently opened Berlin, it’s not a staple of UK stores just yet, but I hope it will be in the future as I’d really love to use this product again!

Oatifix Fresh Face Mask

img_1012

Oatifix was invented by a group of Lush store managers who took part in a ‘Ready Steady Create’ weekend, they wanted to create a face mask that was gently exfoliating and suitable for dry and sensitive skin.

Oats are a fantastic thing. Not only a nutritious food source, they’ve also been used for thousands of years to soothe skin and relieve itching and inflammation. Oats contain polysaccharides (carbohydrates) which become gelatinous when mixed with water and leaves a protective film on the skin.

The Oatmeal, Ground Almonds and Kaolin work together for a gently exfoliating base which helps remove dead skin as you take it off.

img_0389

Whilst on the skin, you can already feel the hydrating properties get to work, Oatifix feels really luxurious the whole time it sits on the skin due to the buttery rich texture. Although Lush say to keep it on for around 10 to 15 minutes, I definitely think the longer you can leave this particular mask on, the better it gets!

The Fresh Banana in this product is what gives it it’s richness, bananas are full of vitamins and minerals and are perfect for softening the skin. Also adding to the moisturising qualities we have Illipe Butter, which is often regarded as the richest of butters.

The addition of Vanilla Absolute, Sandalwood Oil and Benzoin Resinoid contribute to the lovely scent of this face mask, it’s smells like honey almond breakfast porridge, tempting enough to eat!

Oatifix leaves you feeling superbly hydrated and soft, it’s perfect for those with dry skin, or those who simply want to boost their skin’s natural hydration! It also really works on dry patches around the body, especially around the elbows and the knees, or if your hands are in need of some moisture, use it as a hand mask!

This lovely mask is here for you to look at online.

Glycerine, Fine Oatmeal, Fresh Organic Fair Trade Banana, Water, Ground Almonds, Organic Illipe Butter, Kaolin, Talc, Vanilla Absolute, Sandalwood Oil, Benzoin Resinoid, Coumarin, Benzyl Cinnamate, Linalool, Perfume, Gardenia Extract

Dark Angels Fresh Cleanser

Angels On Bare Skin’s darker cousin, Dark Angels is the perfect cleanser for those who like a deeply cleansing and exfoliating scrub.

img_0841

Like all of Lush’s fresh cleansers, to use Dark Angels you just need to take a pinch of the product and add water, then mush it into your hands until it creates a paste and then use it to cleanse. Now I’m gonna say it’s best to use Dark Angels in the shower and in the shower only! All of Lush’s fresh cleansers can be messy but Dark Angels is for sure the most messy due to the fact that it’s literally jet black in colour and can stain light coloured carpets and towels.

Dark Angels is perfect for a deep cleanse and to remove blackheads and help prevent spots. It contains Rhassoul Mud which is cleansing and softening and also combats excess oils and sebum on the skin’s surface meaning this cleanser is great for anyone with oily and blemish prone skin.

Black Sugar and Powdered Charcoal are the scrub in this product. The different sized exfoliants are really effective at removing dirt and dead skin cells. Charcoal and Sugar are excellent natural alternatives to plastic microbeads which are incredibly damaging to the environment.

Avocado Oil and Vegetable Glycerine help to keep the skin nourished after all the scrubbing, meaning Dark Angels doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry and raw. Avocado Oil is also full of vitamins which help the skin cells regenerate giving you a fresh and bright complexion.

The earthy scent is a mixture of calming, meditative Sandalwood and Rosewood Oils. it’s a little strong for some people but you can look past that for how effective the product itself is. Sandalwood and Rosewood are also effective at calming and soothing as well as balancing the skin’s sebum production out.
