Cupcake Fresh Face Mask

There’s something strange about the idea of putting chocolate on your face. Even as someone who absolutely loves chocolate, I still don’t particularly want to cover myself in it so naturally I wasn’t overly keen on trying Cupcake Fresh Face Mask.

As soon as you pop open the lid and bring it to your nose, you’re hit with a scent that reminds me of brownie mixture, which to be honest, made me want to put it on my face even less and just eat it instead. Don’t try it, it really doesn’t taste nice.

Cupcake’s base is made from something called Rhassoul Mud, which should put you off eating it. This helps to soften skin and gives a deep cleanse, drawing out dirt and impurities, leaving skin soft and clear. As a natural clay, its super absorbent, drawing out excess sebum, minimising shine and preventing breakouts.

As you can imagine, Cupcake contain’s Cocoa Powder. Thanks to the residue of cocoa butter Cocoa Powder contains, it is really effective at softening the skin. It also contains a high amount of antioxidants, which are compounds made by plants to prevent premature breakdowns of their cells caused by exposure to atmospheric agents like air, heat and sunlight. These antioxidants benefit skin as well so they protect your skin from premature aging! Cupcake also contains a generous helping of actual Cocoa Butter also to hydrate your skin so it’s not left feeling too dry.

When Cupcake is actually on your face, you can immediately feel your skin being nourished by its beneficial ingredients. Mint and Cedarwood are balancing for the skin, sorting out any excess oil issues and a soothing infusion from Linseed (Flaxseed) help with any redness or irritation. Although it’s the same texture as a brownie batter, you’re safe in the knowledge that it’s cleansing and clarifying your skin, not making breakouts worse!

Cupcake is actually perfect for hormonal, teenage skin, especially those prone to greasiness and breakouts due to the absorbent and purifying nature. Although I’m past that teenage stage, it still works for me when I do get the occasional spot, but I can’t say Cupcake is one of my go-to’s out of the fresh face mask range. I do find it can be a little drying, so make sure you’re using a good moisturiser after if you find you’re in the same boat!

Coalface Facial Soap

Originally Coalface was a one-off limited edition that wasn’t even for public release. One of Lush’s co-founders made this facial soap for a film company when they relaunched the film ‘Annie Hall’ because the character of Annie used to wash her face with black soap for her complexion. However Lush liked it so much they decided to keep it!

Being a facial soap, it’s a lot gentler than soap for your hands and body so don’t worry about it being too strong for your face as it’s actually really soothing!

It’s main ingredient is Liquorice Root Decoction, which is mixed into the base of Coconut and Rapeseed Oils. Topically, it is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and moisturising, cleansing gently and effectively. It has been used for years by herbalists to aid wound healing.

The liquorice also makes up a big potion of Coalface’s scent with other notes coming from Charcoal, Rosewood and Sandalwood. I actually don’t mind the smell, but some people are really put off by it, though it’s not really a product that’s designed for its fragrance, and you can definitely look past it for its benefits.

Powdered Charcoal gives Coalface a slightly gritty texture, designed to deeply exfoliate your skin. It’s also super absorbent, helping clear excess oils and sebum.

Furthermore, earthy smelling Sandalwood Oil adds to the soothing properties of this facial soap, whilst antiseptic Rosewood Oil helps to combat breakouts.

To use you simply lather it up in your hands before massaging over the skin and rinsing away.

Personally, I love Coalface and currently use it every morning to clear my skin from blackheads and excess oils built up overnight. I can understand it can be hard to tell if something like this is going to work for you and your skin, but remember at Lush we’ll always give a good consultation in store, offer you a sample and even allow you to bring back a purchase for a full refund or exchange if it’s really not working for you!

And as always, send me a message if you have any questions and I’ll do my best to help!

Bûche De Noël Fresh Cleanser

What you might not know about Lush’s fresh cleansers, is that they come to us in store in giant wrapped logs, much like a Swiss roll, before being weighed and potted by staff. In the factory, manufacturers make the cleanser, spread it out onto sheets and roll it up, adding extra ingredients to the middle – such as Black Sugar in Dark Angels, or Lavender in Angels On Bare Skin.

Bûche De Noël is the French name for a Christmas or Yule log and is probably named after how the cleansers are made. Like a good Christmas dessert, this cleanser is full of indulgent festive ingredients for your face.

To use a fresh cleanser, you simply grab a pinch of the product and add some water to it in your hand, before working into a paste that you then use to wash your face with.

It’s a reasonably chunky texture with all the ingredients being blended together. Kaolin, Fresh Mandarin and Glycerine give the product it’s cleansing quality whilst Ground Almonds give a gentle exfoliation that feels really lovely. The Almonds also help to give the cleanser a milky consistency that’s nice and soothing.

Dried Cranberries and Brandy have also been added to give a nice festive touch, the latter, much like other types of alcohol, is astringent and good for shrinking pores.

Bûche De Noël smells like a delicious almond dessert, with Almond Essential Oil, Vetivert Oil and Cedarwood Oil mixing with the other ingredients and giving a warming and moreish festive scent.

I love the way my skin feels after using this limited edition cleanser, instantly softer due to Organic Cocoa Butter softening my gently exfoliated skin. It’s one of the products I always look forward to at Christmas and I really do hope they never get rid.

Make sure you get your hands on it before it goes as the Christmas season is almost over!

Rosy Cheeks Fresh Face Mask

As the name suggests, this Fresh Face Mask is very much Rose based. Roses aren’t just beautiful flowers, the oil that the petals produce has numerous benefits for the skin.

Rosy Cheeks is quite a simple face mask. A blend of Rose, Calamine and Kaolin are basically the only ingredients meaning this mask is perfect for sensitive skins.

Kaolin, or China clay, is a naturally occurring porous soft clay rich in the mineral, kaolinite. Its ability to absorb moisture into itself means it is an excellent ingredient to support product formulas that are self-preserving, by hiding water within itself away from bacteria, yeasts or molds. It also absorbs the impurities from the skin making it an effective cleanser.

Calamine powder is mainly zinc oxide, a white powder, with a dash of iron oxide, combining to produce a pretty, light pink powder. It is a very gentle ingredient on the skin and has great cleansing and PH balancing qualities. However, it’s main benefit is that it’s incredibly (and gently) soothing and calming for the skin.

The main feature is of course the Rose. Rosy Cheeks contains Turkish rose in three forms. An oil, an infusion and in a clay. Roses are the Queen of Soothing and this is why this particular mask is perfect for anyone suffering with any irritation, any redness, sunburn or any sort of inflammation.

The scent of rose is used by aromatherapists to lift the mood and restore balance, Rosy Cheeks is gorgeously scented with a strong and almost powdery rose scent.

img_1908

Because of it’s really smooth clay-like texture it’s easily applied to the face and immediately starts the soothing action, especially when it’s taken directly from the fridge where it’s supposed to be stored. A great thing about Rosy Cheeks is that unlike most of Lush’s other masks, it doesn’t dry out that much or become flaky at all.

I really love this mask, it makes my skin feel so good after and is beautifully mattefying once washed off. It’s great for use in the summer to help with sunburn or when you’re feeling flushed.

Check it out on the website here.

Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask

Brazened Honey is a great mask for a detox and for when you want to reawaken tired skin. It contains many ingredients designed to deeply cleanse, improve circulation and brighten the complexion.

This bright mustard coloured mask contains a multitude of Ayurvedic herbs and spices. Ayurvedic medicine is one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India and is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. A lot of the treatments are plant based, using herbs and spices.

Fresh Fennel is used for it’s antibacterial properties to cleanse the skin and is also very stimulating, getting the blood flowing to the skin, reawakening the complexion. Anti-inflammatory Ginger and soothing Clove Bud Oil are also effective stimulants.

Turmeric is added for it’s soothing and antioxidant qualities and Parsley, Coriander and Cardamom also feature to help purify the skin.

Other fantastic cleansing ingredients are Kaolin, Sage; Rosemary and Juniperberry Infusion and Fresh Lime Juice. Kaolin, which features in a lot of Lush’s fresh face masks makes up a majority of the base and draws out impurities. The infusion of the three botanicals is not only antiseptic but also help to balance the skin’s sebum production and refreshing Lime Juice brightens and eats away at any excess oils.

Brazened Honey also features Honey and Free-Range Eggs so sadly this product isn’t currently vegan. Honey is not only naturally anti-bacterial, it’s also incredibly moisturising, whilst protein rich Eggs contain lots of vitamin A which helps to maintain healthy skin by regulating sebum production.

I love the feeling of my skin after using this face mask, it feels so smooth and polished due to it containing Ground Almond Shells to give a light exfoliation, but also because of the wonderful purifying ingredients. It really gives me a glow and is perfect for those sluggish mornings! Personally, I’m not a massive fan of the spicy, herbal scent but I can definitely look past if for the great benefits!

Take a look at Brazened Honey for yourself over at the Lush UK website.

Full Of Grace Facial Serum

Quite literally full of grace, this facial serum is basically a deeply nourishing solid moisturiser with a lot of other benefits and uses! Currently it’s the only one of it’s kind in stores and I truly believe Full Of Grace to be a wonder product.

It’s base is made up of Murumuru and Cupuaçu Butters, both of which are high in oleic acid which is deeply moisturising and conditioning for the skin. Cupuaçu Butter is also an effective antioxidant, meaning it destroys the atoms of any toxins that might occur on your skin due to pollution, cigarette smoke etc.

Another potent antioxidant in this serum bar is Fresh Portobello Mushroom. Again with skin conditioning properties, the mushrooms are packed with vitamins which help defend and protect skin.

Full of Grace is also incredibly soothing because one of the main ingredients is Calamine Powder, which is mainly zinc oxide combined with a dash of iron oxide. Sounds kinda scary for your skin but actually it’s one of the most soothing ingredients around and is totally safe. Chamomile and Rose are also effectively calming and give the serum it’s light floral, herbal smell.

Because of all these beautifully repairing and restorative ingredients, along with the addition of nourishing Almond Oil, Full Of Grace is perfect for those with acne scars and wrinkles as it really helps to promote cell regeneration. I find that even though I don’t particularly suffer with either of these issues, my complexion is brightened and my skin feels so rejuvenated since I started using it.

I personally use Full of Grace every evening as my night cream because of how rich it is. I’m not particularly dry so it can leave me looking a little oily, which is why I’d rather not wear it in the day. A lot of people use theirs as a primer and another excellent use for it is to use it before you apply a face mask. Almond Oil is a great carrier oil which deeply penetrates the skin and therefore pulls the mask deeper into the skin. The massage you give yourself when applying also boosts circulation and gets the skin ready to clear out all the toxins!

MELT WARNING – be careful where you store it! I left mine in a place where it got too warm once and sadly it melted, so I now keep mine in a little pot incase it happens again!

BB Seaweed Fresh Face Mask

The name of this Fresh Face Mask comes from when BBC presenters Anna Ryder Richardson and Charlie Dimmock came to the Lush factory to create a new product, and BB Seaweed was born.

BB Seaweed is a great mask for everyone as it has a multitude of benefits for all types of skin and is the perfect all rounder.

Don’t be put off by the colour or consistency, it’s grey, feels like wet clay and features little chunks of rose petals and seaweed in it but believe me it’s truly wonderful.

The first ingredient is Lime Tree Flower and Sweet Violet Leaf Decoction, these plants are mucilaginous, which makes them soothing when applied topically. BB Seaweed contains lots of other soothing ingredients such as Rosemary Oil, toning Rose Absolute, revitalising, mineral rich Toothed Wrack Seaweed and Seaweed Absolute and Aloe Vera Gel, all helping to calm down any redness or inflammation.

Cleansing clay based Kaolin works with antiseptic Honey to deeply cleanse the face, drawing out any impurities. It also contains mild exfoliants in the form of both Ground Almonds and Millet Flakes, helping to gently buff away dead skin cells.

Honey also helps to moisturise and protect the skin along with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

For those looking for a good mask to tone and tighten then this might be a good one to go for. Rosemary, Patchouli, Violet Leaf and Rose are all astringent, helping the pores to contract.

Whenever I use BB Seaweed my face feels remarkably softer, it’s my go to when simply, I just want my skin to feel extra nice. It isn’t drying whatsoever, nor does it add to any excess oils, in fact Bentone Gel and Rose should help to balance out any excess sebum issues. Perfect for those with ‘combination’ skin.

On the face, it is instantly soothing, especially when it’s taken straight from the fridge which is where it needs to be kept due to the completely fresh ingredients. It’s not particularly scented but it gets a natural scent from the earthy and herbal components.

I could go on and on talking about the benefits of this wonderful mask but you should definitely find out for yourself over on the Lush UK website here.
