Twilight Body Spray

I have trouble sleeping. I always have. It takes me roughly an hour to actually fall asleep, and that’s on a good night. Twilight Body Spray is a product that I am currently using every day and I keep it pride of place on my bedside table ready for me to spray over my bedsheets each evening to help me drift off quicker and more peacefully. Although this is clearly a body spray, there’s absolutely no harm in using it on clothes, sheets or as a room spray if you wish.

Or course we’re talking about the scent family that’s one of Lush’s most well known and most talked about – the Sleepy family. Comprised of Twilight Bath Bomb, Sleepy Body Lotion and more, this is a scent that’s designed to be used before bedtime because of it’s mind-soothing ingredients. The sweet and relaxing scent is made up of Lavender, Tonka, Ylang Ylang and Benzoin Resinoid.

Lavender is arguably one of the most used essential oils in aromatherapy for its calming effects. The Ancient Egyptians used it to help achieve a state of serenity whilst the Romans used it to combat headaches. Today, researchers have proven how potent Lavender is when used as a natural remedy to help aid sleep. Although it doesn’t directly affect the quality of sleep itself, it does ease worries and stress, thereby relaxing people enough to help them sleep better. Although Lavender has a distinct aroma you could describe as somewhere between herbal and floral, Twilight’s scent is much sweeter thanks to its other ingredients.

Tonka Absolute is obtained from the seeds of a tree that grows in South America. Lush buy their Tonka directly from the communities in Brazil that gather it. The beans are collected from the forest floor where they’ve fall from the tree canopy and are brought back to the villages where the beans are manually extracted from their shells. They are then laid out in the sun to dry – turning a rich brown colour during the process. The sweet beans, which smell like spicy vanilla, are then gathered together and sent to Lush in the UK. Tonka’s sweet, comforting aroma is definitely what gives this scent those creamy notes you detect.

Derived from the flowers of the Cananga tree, Ylang Ylang Oil is rich, exotic and wonderfully fragrant. The oil is perhaps best known for its soothing and relaxing properties, and is frequently used to help alleviate stress-related disorders such as depression and anxiety. Its warm, custardy scent is said to promote inner peace and feelings of joyfulness, and there’s a lot of evidence that suggests it’s a pretty effective aphrodisiac too. Lush use Ylang Ylang from a supplier in The Comoro Islands and from Ghana, where they own their own plantation, helping the ecosystem there flourish.

Benzoin comes from the Styrax tree, native to Sumatra but also found in other parts of southeast Asia. Lush source Benzoin from Laos, where it is extracted from the trees. The resin collects in small incisions made in the bark, which is hardened and stored in pieces or pressed into blocks. This gum is then refined further, through the method of solvent extraction, to produce a resinoid. The lingering, sweet balsamic scent of Benzoin is like a mixture of cinnamon and vanilla ice-cream and is said to be extremely relaxing, yet warming and comforting too.

I think these four ingredients pair together so well and I instantly feel mellowed and comforted whenever I smell this fragrance. As I said, I’m currently using it on my bedsheets each night and I’m definitely noticing a difference in how relaxed I am. I tend to try and focus on the aroma whilst I’m falling asleep and although it’s not going to instantly cure my sleeping woes, it’s definitely helping me de-stress and enter a more relaxed state of mind.

It’s a great alternative to Sleepy Body Lotion if slathering yourself in a cream is too much effort for you! Plus, I think this body spray is slightly stronger in scent!

Golden Pear Body Spray

I’ve actually had this bottle since Christmas but I’m only just writing about it now! I remember when I first heard they were releasing a body spray in this scent I was so excited, since the first release of the original soap in 2017, I’ve loved it and I’m so glad that it’s growing in popularity!

The Golden Pear scent is a potent one, even if you just have the soap sitting on the side in your bathroom, the decadent aroma greets you every time you open the door and walk in. It’s a mixture of Cardamom Oil, Sandalwood Oil and Brazilian Orange Oil and is reminiscent of baked spiced pears and syrupy fruit tarts. Whilst the original soap contains heaps of Fresh Pear Puree, this body spray obviously doesn’t, so I was a little concerned that they wouldn’t be able to truly replicate the scent without it, but I was completely wrong! It’s a strong body spray and I’d even say it’s more Golden Pear than Golden Pear itself!

Now with the first spray, the overall smell is quite an alcoholic one, but don’t fret because it gradually settles into the scent you’ll know and love. A lot of Lush’s body sprays and perfumes can have this problem but it doesn’t mean anything is wrong with them, sometimes they just need to fully settle into the format.

When it’s settled, the first perfume notes that come through are sweet and richly fruity. Whilst there’s not really any noticeable Orange aromas, it’s the Brazilian Orange, mixed with warming Cardamom that gives you the illusion of platefuls of warm spiced pears dripping with syrup and you find yourself just wanting to sink into the aroma. After the warming notes, you start to notice the Sandalwood grounding you into a peaceful state of mind. I actually find this scent rather complex; it’s warming and reassuring, yet enlivening and energising at the same time.

I personally find it great for when you want to just take a moment for yourself and clear your mind. I actually use it mostly as a room spray, for when I’m meditating and to help invoke a real sense of comfort.

When I have worn it as a body spray and gone out, I’ve received many compliments about how good I smell and someone even said that with that scent, I’m giving off a warm and friendly aura and energy, which was a delight to hear. I find that it’s very long lasting as well, it remains on my clothes almost two days later.

I’m trying to use my Golden Pear Body Spray sparingly because you never know when or  even if Lush will bring an exclusive product out again. Luckily with such a heady fragrance, you only need to spray a little each time!

Snow Fairy Body Spray

Now I can’t say that I’m a massive Snow Fairy fan. That’s not to say I dislike it at all, but I’ve never really seen the hype that a lot of other people see. Snow Fairy Body Spray was a late addition to 2018’s Christmas Range and many people were ecstatic to say the least, but I can’t say I shared the same excitement.

For anyone who hasn’t experienced Snow Fairy before, the iconic Lush scent is made from a sweet Synthetic Musk which smells like candy floss, pear drops and bubble gum. To me, this body spray really is the best of Snow Fairy, even beating the shower gel! The description on the back says it will transport you to your favourite sweet shop and that’s exactly the feeling I had when I sprayed it over myself for the first time. I felt super playful, sickly delicious and like I was surrounded by sweets. I really get the impression of those foam banana sweets with this format, something I never usually notice.

Even though I said I don’t call myself a true Snow Fairy fan, I’m actually growing to love this body spray. Perhaps now the range has gone from stores and I’m not constantly smelling it and telling customers that we have none left, I’ve grown to appreciate it more. Absence really does make the heart grow fonder!

I love how long it lasts on my skin and my clothes, a scarf I was wearing the last time I wore it still retains the strong fragrance a good couple of weeks later!

I’m glad I got a chance to really fall in love with a Snow Fairy scented product, so I’m glad I can say that this bottle will last me a long while! It’s definitely something you need to try if you’re a fan of the range, I’m certain it’ll make a return next year!
