Whether you shave your face or your legs or anywhere else for that matter, Lush’s shaving products are among the best out there. I’ve been using Dirty Shaving Cream for years and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever stop.
Dirty is a rich, non-foaming shaving cream that really protects your skin from the blade you’re using. You apply it in circular motions against the grain of the hairs to boost circulation and lift the hairs ready for shaving.
Its creamy consistency is from a base of Oat Milk, Safflower Oil and Shea Butter. Lush steep oats in hot water to produce a milk that is very soothing on irritated and damaged skin. If your skin is prone to shaving rashes and is easily irritated when you shave, you might find that Dirty really works for you. Safflower Oil is considered a great smoother for the skin and has an incredibly high percentage of beneficial unsaturated fats, allowing for easy application and leaves behind hydrated skin with the help of the Shea Butter.
Dirty further contains Honey, which is full of nutrients. It has antiseptic, antioxidant and softening properties to ensure the product is leaving behind clean and smooth skin. As a natural humectant, Honey retains moisture by forming a protective layer on the skin.
Dirty is actually incredibly good for someone with sensitive skin but still features a delicate yet heady scent. As part of the ‘Dirty’ family, it contains some of the essential oils that the original perfume does (the idea being that each Dirty product gets layered up to reach the true ‘Dirty’ scent). It’s somewhat floral and somewhat woody containing Lavender, Sandalwood, Benzoin, Cedarwood and Tonka. Lavender is ideal in a product for soothing irritated and sensitive skin and it, along with Tincture of Benzoin, Tonka and Sandalwood have anti-inflammatory properties, whilst Cedarwood has balancing and astringent qualities.
Dirty also features an ingredient called Lanolin. This yellow, waxy substance is extracted from raw wool by squeezing it (obviously after shearing the sheep!) and is an excellent moisturiser as it emulsifies water on the skin and holds it there, whilst creating a protective film. This, along with the Honey means that Dirty isn’t currently vegan.
As I said, Dirty has been a staple in my bathroom for a while now and I just love how easy and effective it is to shave with. I would say though, that it’s much more effective on shorter stubble rather than longer hairs. My skin feels so good after, very different from shaving rashes of the past!
