One out of three current year-round cold pressed soaps, along with Lush Mechanic and Lush Gardener. This earthy scented soap is designed for hippies and lovers of grounding scents like Patchouli and Vetivert. It features an imprint, typical of Lush’s cold pressed soaps, and in this case it’s a golden lion.
As a cold pressed soap, Lush Hippy is produced without the use of heat to melt and bind the ingredients together and instead, little soap granules are pressed together when cold and allowed to bind together on their own. This process allows for a sturdy and long lasting bar of soap and the lack of heat allows the ingredients to retain their full benefits.
The soap has a number of ingredients to nourish the skin including a base of Rapeseed and Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Wheatgerm Oil, a little Castor Oil and some hydrating Cocoa Butter. Wheatgerm Oil contains heaps of essential nutrients and vitamins that really benefit the skin and promote healthy cell regeneration. It’s enriching natural formula is particularly soothing and great for locking in moisture. Sunflower Oil is also high in antioxidants and vitamins for brighter and smoother skin. All of these ingredients along with a little Cornstarch give Lush Hippy a really thick and creamy lather.
Sunflower isn’t just included as an oil, but Lush have added a Sunflower Petal Infusion as well as the actual seeds to this soap. Sunflower Petals are for adding a natural yellow colour to a product as well as having calming and soothing effects on the skin. You can actually notice the black seeds in the soap which offer a gentle scrub.
The scent of Lush Hippy is very earthy and woody. Containing a high amount of earthy Patchouli Oil, musky Labdanum Resinoid and grassy and smoky Vetivert Oil, its a fairly natural smelling scent that reminds me of meadows and farmlands. There’s a slight zesty note of citrus in the background from Brazilian Orange Oil too, but it’s definitely not the main aroma. The fragrance is much stronger when in use and after you’ve used the soap it really sticks on your hands too!
If you’ve ever used a cold pressed soap before you’ll know that they really do last a long time, even with continuous use in the shower and they don’t really give you that squeaky feeling that other soaps can. The only downside is that Lush Hippy runs its bright yellow colour, which can be a disaster if you’re not keeping it in a soap dish or if you’re using white towels (don’t worry it does come out in the wash). Other than that, it’s a really good and effective soap.
If you haven’t heard, Lush is actually discontinuing this soap sometime soon, so make sure you get a chance to try it before it vanishes into Lush history forever.
