29 High Street Shower Jelly

29 High Street is the name of Lush’s most exclusive perfume, only available to customers shopping at 29 High Street, Poole- the place where it all started. I’m yet to get my hands on the perfume but I recently snapped up a 29 High Street Shower Jelly that shares the same scent.

The perfume was designed to recreate the generic ‘Lush aroma’ that spills out of shops and greets you powerfully when you walk inside. I’d argue somewhat that with countless new products and formulations over the years as well as the discontinuation of a few, the scent inside stores is very different to what it was all those years ago when the perfume was first developed.

When developing the scent, Lush chose ingredients that feature a great deal in their products, bearing in mind those that have strong scent profiles to really determine what the real ‘Lush scent’ could be. They came to the conclusion to use Jasmine, Lemon, Lime, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood and Tonka, and it really bloody works.

I find the first element I get from the fragrance is the sweet floral notes coming from the Jasmine and Ylang Ylang but they’re totally sharing the spotlight with a refreshing, fruity and slightly zesty note of Lemon and Lime. The creamy sweetness of Tonka Absolute and the warming woody tones of Sandalwood give the scent more complexity and deepness, whilst really rounding the smell off into something that I can only describe as being intoxicatingly and so moreish. It’s a mix that really shouldn’t work but it definitely does. I think you really have to experience this scent first hand and decide for yourself if you’re into it or not.

As a jelly, I think this scent works amazingly. It’s really quite potent when you’re lathering it up over your body meaning it leaves you smelling of the fragrance for hours after. Lush’s shower jellies all contain a base that’s derived from seaweed, so they’re incredibly nourishing and softening for the skin.

As well as the Jasmine Absolute, Lush have included Jasmine Flower Infusion as one of the main ingredients in this jelly to boost the sensual fragrant aroma that the flowers are well known for, but also for its skin-soothing properties. Lush have also included Fresh Lemon Juice for its multitude of benefits for the skin too. Lemons are full of antioxidants and vitamins, and their juice is cleansing, toning and antiseptic.

This is hands down my favourite shower jelly I’ve ever used. I love how long the strength of the scent lasts and although I actually don’t often use my jellies (even though I have so many), I’m using this one a lot because I’m so in love and it makes my skin feel so soft too! I need to get my hands on that perfume ASAP!!!

Aubergine Bath Bomb

I think out of all of Lush’s cheeky products for this year’s Valentine’s range, Aubergine might be naughtiest! They even describe it as having a ‘fast fizzing tip’ and it’s honestly hilarious watching people read that in store. In case you didn’t know, it’s modelled after the aubergine emoji, which is often used as a symbol for… something else and I’ll leave you to work out what that is.

Aubergine features a beautiful scent. It’s the same scent as the Lush Poole exclusive perfume ’29 High Street’ which is designed to smell just like a lush store itself! The main note of this bath bomb’s scent comes from an ingredient called Ho Wood Oil, which is described as being irresistibly floral and woody with underlying hints of citrus and I think that’s a great way to describe the actual bath bomb too! Whilst that is the main aroma, you do get uplifting bright notes from Bergamot and Litsea Cubeba and there’s definitely an underlying sweetness from Tonka Absolute. It’s a very powdery smell, which almost makes the floral notes stronger. The whole scent is rather complex but is one you could smell for hours. I really hope that this sparks a new trend of 29 High Street scented bath products!

Strangely enough and certainly not an ingredient you’d ever think a bath bomb would contain but Aubergine contains actual Fresh Aubergine! Lush simply say ‘Aubergines contain vitamins and minerals that are good for the skin, but frankly, we all know why they’re in here, don’t we? Would you have made an aubergine bath bomb without fresh aubergines?’ and I mean, fair enough I guess!

Once popped in the water, Aubergine floated for a little while before capsizing and turning upside down, I didn’t even manage to get a decent picture! The bath bomb is quite a slow and quiet fizzer, slowly releasing purple and green from the tip into the water. Before long, the inner section of the bath bomb revealed itself and produced a vibrant blue colour, which intertwined with the green and various shades of purple and created really pretty bath art!

As Aubergine fizzed away, it’s scent was released into the room and I began to pick up more of the citrus side of the scent which really lifted my mood.

The colour that it resulted in was truly gorgeous, a deep shade of purple invited me to take a dip and I was greeted by an incredibly amount of glimmering silver lustre floating throughout. I’d happily say that the resulting water was one of the best I’ve seen in a long while! After spending a good 40 minutes soaking in the glorious water, I dried myself off and amazingly the scent remained on my skin up until I went to bed later that evening! I wouldn’t say Aubergine is massively moisturising but it certainly left me feeling soft.

I’d definitely that Aubergine is my favourite product out of the entire 2019 Valentine’s Range! I’ll definitely be stocking up before they disappear! Bravo Lush!
