Argan Naked Facial Oil

Argan is the last of the five naked facial oils for me to actually write about. It’s taken me this long to actually try it for myself at home as part of my everyday routine. I love how each of the naked oils is so unique and different and how Light Touch, Amazon Primer, Full of Grace and Banana Skin each have such different benefits for different skins with their incredibly diverse ingredients. With each one there’s so much to talk about and Argan definitely contains some of the best around.

As the name suggests, Argan contains rich Argan Oil which has bountiful benefits for the skin. Argan Oil has traditionally been used as a treatment for skin conditions, including acne and eczema. It contains high levels of fatty acids including linoleic acid which is anti-inflammatory and therefore will soothe the skin, and oleic acid which will protect and condition skin as well as restore hydration. Because Argan Oil is full of vitamins and antioxidants also, it has massive replenishing and revitalising properties too.

Also for adding moisture to the skin, Argan contains a base of Cocoa and Shea Butters as well as Date Syrup. This sugary, sticky syrup actually works a lot like honey, in how protective it is, really locking moisture into the skin.

You may have heard of Rose Hip Oil being used in skincare products, or being used as the pure oil itself in place of a moisturiser. Rose Hip Oil has a long list of benefits so its no surprise it’s used so often. It contains many antioxidants, vitamins and fatty acids and it’s also proven to help the formation of collagen in the skin, which may help reduce the appearance of scars, stretch marks and hyper pigmentation, even out the skin tone and keep the skin’s elasticity.

An ingredient you might not see too often in skincare is Prickly Pear Oil. A prickly pear is a fruit from a certain type of cactus and the oil its seeds contain is thought to be one of the best natural ways to maintain skin’s youthfulness. It has the most powerful antioxidant compounds and the most effective vitamins all in very high concentration levels whilst being soothing and moisturising too.

Argan is actually part of the Rose Jam family and smells just like Rose Jam Shower Gel, Ro’s Argan Soap and the rest of the products in the scent family. A lot of people would say it’s a little too potent of a fragrance for a face moisturiser but it’s a scent I adore so I can’t say I share that same sentiment. I do however, find Argan to be a little more creamier, warmer and slightly less sweet than the standard Rose Jam smell, likely due to the format. Naturally this means that Argan contains Rose, Geranium and Lemon Oils for the aroma. Rose is well known for its soothing effects, Geranium has toning properties and Lemon gives the skin brightness. Argan lastly also contains Aloe Vera Extract to further soothe the skin.

I’m really enjoying using Argan each evening. I say evening as for me it’s a little too heavy to wear during the day, but it’s perfect as a night cream/oil. I’ve really noticed a visible difference in any redness that was beginning to appear on my face and although I’ve always been such a fan of Full of Grace, I think I may have found a new favourite! I’ll definitely be continuing to use Argan for a long while!

Curl Power Curl Pudding

Okay real talk. My hair is straight, thin, flat and definitely not dry, so a product called ‘Curl Power’ definitely isn’t targeted to someone with my hair. I actually bought a pot of this for a friend whilst visiting the new spa store in Liverpool and in true reviewer spirit, I had to try it for myself too.

Curl Power is designed to help style afros and curls, whilst hydrating and protecting the hair at the same time. It features a gorgeous biscuity and caramel-like scent with a hint of coconut that strongly reminds me of coconut macaroons.!

The main two ingredients in Curl Power are Linseed Gel and Molasses. Linseeds are rich in proteins, minerals, vitamins and oils making it a great component in a haircare product. The gel Linseeds produce when boiled is highly protective and locks moisture into the hair. Molasses is a thick, black tar like substance which is a byproduct from a long process of making sugar. On the hair, it’s very similar to the effects of honey, helping to retain moisture and giving a gorgeous shine.

Where both of those ingredients are added to help lock moisture in, you obviously need ingredients that actually add the moisture too. Often curly and afro hair tends to be dryer so it’s fitting that Curl Power offers a lot of hydrating and moisturising effects. Cocoa Butter is combined with Jojoba Oil, Argan Oil, Coconut Oil, Soya Lecithin and Lanolin to really add hydration. Argan Oil has many benefits for the hair as it is naturally soothing, conditioning and full of antioxidant vitamins. The high levels of fatty acids it contains are wonderful at deeply hydrating the hair. Argan Oil is also known for its restoring and repairing qualities. Soya Lecithin is a fatty substance that occurs naturally in soybeans and Lanolin is known as ‘wool wax’ and is obtained by pressing shorn sheep’s wool. Both are highly emollient and protective, deeply locking in moisture.

We aren’t stopping there as Curl Power contains a number of other impressive ingredients too, it would seem Lush have really pushed the boat out with this one. Silken Tofu & Aquafaba are added for their softening effects and also because they are full of proteins, perfect for strengthening damaged hair. Hydrolysed Wheat Gluten is also full of proteins which will increase the tensile strength of the hair to make it less susceptible to breakage. It also adds volume, texture and condition to the hair, preventing it from drying out and helping to define those curls.

Coconut Vinegar is made by fermenting coconut sap and water for up to a year. This little-known culinary ingredient gives hair gloss, shine and a soft texture. It is also nutrient and amino acid rich – perfect for keeping the hair strong! Ethyl Macadamiate, derived from macadamia nuts, coats each hair strand and adds protection against heat and humidity, allowing your curls to stay bouncy and light. Lastly, Curl Power contains PVP to give some hold.

After trying a tiny amount in my own freshly washed, towel dried hair, it actually made it feel so soft and hydrated. There was a very slight hold but you don’t get any of that hard, crispy effect you can get with some hair styling products. It didn’t weigh my hair down that much either, something I’m always really concerned about when trying out new haircare, especially ones that are so rich with ingredients; it even gave it some volume surprisingly! What’s more, the scent really lingers and I could smell it around me all day!

Now I’m probably not the best person to really give an honest review of this product, just because it’s not designed for someone like me. But, I have heard some really good reviews from others with different hair types and coupled with my own experience, I reckon this is a really great product!

Ro’s Argan Gourmet Soap

Gourmet soaps are a little different from Lush’s regular soaps. Firstly they don’t have the standard base of Rapeseed and Coconut Oil, instead they have a base that’s unique to each soap. Gourmet soaps are a lot softer and creamier than the rest of the soap range meaning they are beautifully moisturising and conditioning.

In Ro’s Argan we have a base made from antioxidant Argan Oil which is sourced from women’s co-operatives in Morocco, this is what gives this soap it’s soft and squidgy texture and produces a smooth, creamy lather that conditions the skin, leaving it revitalised and refreshed. There’s also a slight stickiness to the lather which comes from the addition of Granulated Sugar.

Making up the signature Rose Jam fragrance we have cleansing Lemon Oil, toning Geranium Oil and obviously Rose Oil and Rose Absolute which are great for soothing damaged skin. Just having a piece sat in your bathroom really lifts the room as it’s so fragrant!

I personally love this soap. It feels really luxurious when you’re using it due to how creamy and lovely it is to wash with; and not just for hands either, I love using it on my body in the shower too!

Ro’s Argan Soap is really pretty to look at, it comes sprinkled with red and yellow rose petals which just add to the ‘gourmet’ value. And fun fact – this soap is actually a creamy colour which you can see when you cut into it, it just so happens to have the reddish colour on the outside because it oxidises with the air!

After using a piece of this beautiful soap you can feel the effects straight away and it leaves you with wonderfully smelling soft skin.

I really think the gourmet soaps are so worth it, they’re a little pricey compared to other soaps but they last a long time and you’re paying for the quality – something I’m more than happy to do.

This article here has a fab introduction to gourmet soaps and you can read more about Ro’s Argan specifically here.

Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner

Lush created this product in honour of Rowena Bird, one of Lush’s Co-Founders. Apparently she wanted both a skin conditioner to use after showering, and a product containing Argan Oil. Well Ro got both her wishes combined with this wonderful product.

A body conditioner is basically the same as a hair conditioner, but for your skin! You use it after you’ve already cleansed your body by smoothing it all over, massaging it into the skin and gently rinsing it off. Although it’s a quick process, you feel and smell the effects all damn day! It’s also the perfect product for people who don’t have the time or patience to put a body lotion on after the shower – just do it as part of the shower routine instead!

Ro’s Argan shares it’s scent with the Rose Jam range. The Rose Jam scent is made up of Rose, Geranium and Lemon. The sweet, floral rose is perfectly matched with the similar floral notes from the geranium, with a subtle zesty kick from the lemon oil, giving Rose Jam a surprisingly unique smell that leaves you feeling almost intoxicated and cheerful.

Much like Rose Jam Shower Gel, Ro’s Argan contains antiseptic and stimulating Cypress Leaf Infusion, which reawakens skin. It also contains antioxidant Argan Oil and Goji Berry Juice to help promote healthy cell regeneration.

For the conditioning values, Ro’s Argan contains vitamin rich Almond and Brazil Nut Oils which give the skin added nourishment. It also contains skin-softening and moisturising Cocoa, Shea and Cupuaçu Butters which make the product feel buttery rich and luxurious. The Brazil Nut also gives Ro’s Argan a slightly nuttier scent as opposed to other members of the Rose Jam family.

I find this product to be incredibly soothing, it’s one of my go to’s if I’m ever sunburnt or suffering with skin irritation because it really works wonders. The majority of the ingredients here, including Rose, Almond and Vanilla, are perfect for soothing and restoring the skin.

Although I do prefer to use my Ro’s Argan in the shower, I know a lot of people do use it after as just a body moisturiser instead. Personally I do think it works better as intended, just because it reacts well with the water which helps the cream sink in, but it really is just a personal preference.

Rose Jam Shower Gel

Isn’t the colour just stunning??????

Rose Jam holds a special place in my heart. The scent family was the first Lush ‘scent’ that I truly fell in love with. I remember the first time I smelt and used a Rose Jam Bubbleroon I was hooked; and although my top choices have moved on to lesser known scent families, Rose Jam will always be up there.

In terms of the shower gel, for the past few years Rose Jam was only around each year as part of the Christmas range, but starting this year, Lush decided to make the popular shower gel an all year round product, making so many people (including me!) happy.

Inspired by a Turkish delicacy which goes by the same name, it’s only fitting that the Rose Oil and Rose Absolute is made from petals which are hand picked from Turkish roses at dawn, when the flowers are apparently at their most fragrant. Along with Geranium Oil and Sicilian Lemon Oil, this is what makes up the iconic scent. The strong, sweetness of the rose is complimented beautifully by the floral notes from the geranium, with a subtle zesty kick from the lemon oil, giving Rose Jam a surprisingly unique smell that leaves you feeling almost intoxicated and cheerful. It’s almost undetectable, but there’s also added Vanilla Pod Infusion, which just adds to the decedent sweetness.

The scent really stays with you, even a good half a day after your shower you can still detect the lingering fragrance on your skin, I rarely wear a perfume or body spray after using this gel as there’s no need! And why would you want to mask such a delicious smell anyway?

With Goji Berry Juice and Cypress Leaf Infusion, Rose Jam is also efficient at cleansing your body thoroughly. And with added Argan Oil, it’s equally as good at hydrating and conditioning too. I also find that in terms of lathering up, it’s just right – not too much that it’s all foam, but still enough to really feel clean.

I will be forever buying this shower gel, I’m so sure of that, and I’d also like to take this moment to sincerely thank Lush for allowing everyone to be able to experience it all year round!

Thank you, Lush!!!!!!
