Little Pot Of Energy Naked Body Lotion

At the moment, Lush really are paving the way for packaging free cosmetics. Nearly every product you can think of, whether it’s shampoo or moisturiser, has a naked and packaging free alternative. Although you could argue that their massage bars are technically naked body moisturisers, Little Pot Of Energy is currently the only ‘naked body lotion’ you can find in all stores.

I love how Lush design their naked lotions to look like their pots. It not only makes the product look cute but allows for an easy grip when you’re stroking it over you body. Essentially, Little Pot Of Energy works in the same way as a massage bar, melting against the heat of the skin and leaving behind a layer of hydration ready to be massaged in.

Little Pot Of Energy contains a mixture between Cocoa and Shea Butters as it’s moisturising base. Both butters are well known in the cosmetics industry for their abilities to really hydrate the skin and as great emulsifiers in naked products. Two waxes from vegetable sources have also been included in the product’s base to help it retain it’s shape, whilst also having their own protective and skin-softening benefits. Lush have further included rich Almond Oil which is full of vitamins essential for maintaining and repairing healthy skin. Almond Oil is one of the best moisturising oils you’ll find, perfect for a body moisturiser.

If you read this blog a lot, you’ll know I’m not a massive lover of citrusy or orangey scents. And considering this product literally smells like orange-flavoured sweets, I can’t say I’m its biggest fan. Little Pot Of Energy contains Grapefruit Oil as well as Orange Puree and Pink Grapefruit Puree for an uplifting, energising scent, it’s called the way it is for a reason! Lush have chosen specifically Pink Grapefruit because it’s sweeter than the standard yellow variety, otherwise I would probably think the scent would be too sharp. The high vitamin C content of both oranges and grapefruits works wonders for the skin, helping to firm, smooth and brighten.

The zesty refreshing scent is easily transferred onto the skin after using the product where it’ll stay for a good few hours. I find it to be really quite potent as it’s almost like wearing a whole perfume so I apply it sparingly. Although the scent might not appeal to me, how it makes my skin feel really does. It melts so easily onto the body and really leaves skin softer and well nourished, I can use this in the morning and well into the evening I’ll still be noticing how smooth my skin feels, which is really quite something.

In conclusion, whilst I don’t think I’ll be opting for Little Pot Of Energy again, I think it’s a great body lotion option for someone who wants to go naked, but doesn’t like the typical massage bar shape. Of course, if you’re a citrus fan that is!

Sleepy Body Lotion

Sleepy Body Lotion is arguably one of Lush’s most talked about and highly praised products. It was in the news fairly recently because a woman found it was the only thing that helped her young child sleep at night and has been known to help people struggling with anxiety. With a beautiful Lavender and Tonka scent it’s designed to help you drift off easily, and it’s also a simple yet nourishing body moisturiser too.

Lavender is known to help put the mind at rest. As one of the most popular oils in aromatherapy, it’s widely used to treat anxiety, depression and insomnia. In this body lotion, the well known floral fragrance is mixed with Tonka Absolute, Ylang Ylang Oil and Benzoin Resinoid for a sweeter, creamier scent. It’s kinda got a chocolatey note to it which I love and it’s a scent that really puts you in a good mood.

Sleepy contains Lavender Water, Lavender Flower Infusion and Lavender Oil because lavender is one of the best ingredients around to soothe inflamed or irritated skin. Coupled with the lavender, Sleepy’s base is actually made from Almond Oil and Oat Milk. Rich Oat Milk is another excellently soothing ingredient that has been used for thousands of years to calm and treat the skin topically. Almond Oil is a great moisturiser and it’s packed with vitamin E which is great for promoting cell regeneration.

Lush have also blended both Cocoa and Illipe Butters along with Jojoba Oil for extra creaminess and extra hydration. Jojoba Oil is very similar to our skin’s natural oils, allowing it to easily sink in, carrying those beneficial ingredients with it.

Sleepy Body Lotion is fairly thick and rich and you really only need a small amount to cover your dry areas. It’s ideal to slather over any dry and/or cracked skin you may have to really nourish and soothe. Personally I pop it over my arms and my chest, so I can really get the aroma when I’m trying to sleep.

As someone who very often struggles to fall asleep, I’ve found that Sleepy definitely helps! It’s so nice to have a comforting scent to smell as you’re drifting off. I do find that my body gets used to it fairly quickly though and it only works for a week or so before I’m back to not being able to sleep again. However, if I stop using it, after time I guess my body forgets and it helps me sleep once more!

Once Upon A Time Naked Body Lotion

Along with the potted version, Lush also released Once Upon A Time Body Lotion in a packaging free, naked form!

img_0810

You use a Naked Body Lotion much like you would a massage bar, grabbing the whole product and gliding it over your skin, allowing the butters and oils to leave a rich trail of hydration behind it.

Both versions are basically the same product, the naked version just has a different formulation and a couple of extra ingredients to make it solid. Because of this, I’d say that this version is a lot richer and much more moisturising. It still contains the Murumuru and Illipe Butters like the potted variety but also Cocoa and Shea Butters too. Japan Wax and Carnauba Wax also help the product retain its state and protect the skin.

Because it’s richer, you don’t need to use as much with each application and I’d say that this version definitely lasts you longer than the other.

A downside to this version is that the scent is a lot more subtle. You get the more citrusy notes from the essential oils rather than the juicy freshness of the apples and for this reason I think I prefer the potted. I think because, weirdly (and I’m not entirely sure why), this version replaces the Apple Water for mineral rich Spring Water, that this might be the reason why it doesn’t smell as appley. I’d also say that the scent lasts a lot longer when using the non-naked version too.

Again, like with it’s potted brother, the small amount of glitter is barely noticeable, so don’t worry too much if that’s not your thing!

Do you prefer to go naked or keep the pot on? Let me know!

Once Upon A Time Body Lotion

What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the words ‘Once Upon A Time’? Fairy tales, far off lands and magical kingdoms? One of the most iconic images from a fairy tale is an apple, the poisoned one given to Snow White by the evil queen. It only makes sense that a body lotion named Once Upon A Time is full of apples (minus the poison).

Its rather nice having a scent that’s very different from the warming and spicy or candy sweet scents that make up the majority of the Christmas ranges. Once you’ve popped the lid open on a tub of this lotion you can instantly smell the familiar juicy scent of fresh green apples. It’s no surprise it smells so strongly because two of the top ingredients are Apple Infusion and Apple Water.

Apples are rich in antioxidants to refresh and rejuvenate the skin. The malic acid contained in the fruit gently exfoliates the skin’s top layers, leaving your skin toned and glowing. In combination with cleansing ingredients, the juice de-greases the skin with its gently astringent and acidic properties, making it a perfect lotion for someone who already has overly oily skin.

The crisp apple scent has seen a few incarnations before, notably So White Bath Bomb and Santa’s Belly Shower Jelly. However, due to the different ingredients making up the scent, it’s similar, but not the same.

Once applied to the skin, you somewhat lose the refreshing apple scent and citrus notes start to come through. Once Upon A Time also contains Grapefruit, Sicilian Lemon and Lime Oils for their uplifting scent and astringent, toning qualities.

This lotion is light, but effective. Almond Oil and Jojoba Oil are the perfect carrier oils which deeply penetrate and nourish the skin, allowing the antioxidant and conditioning  benefits of other ingredients, like richly hydrating and softening Murumuru and Illipe Butters, to reach further.

Although the lotion contains a small amount of Synthetic Mica (a safe, plastic free glitter), its barely noticeable and I didn’t even realise it was there until I was reading the ingredients list!

Stay tuned for a post on the naked version of this exact product!

Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner

Lush created this product in honour of Rowena Bird, one of Lush’s Co-Founders. Apparently she wanted both a skin conditioner to use after showering, and a product containing Argan Oil. Well Ro got both her wishes combined with this wonderful product.

A body conditioner is basically the same as a hair conditioner, but for your skin! You use it after you’ve already cleansed your body by smoothing it all over, massaging it into the skin and gently rinsing it off. Although it’s a quick process, you feel and smell the effects all damn day! It’s also the perfect product for people who don’t have the time or patience to put a body lotion on after the shower – just do it as part of the shower routine instead!

Ro’s Argan shares it’s scent with the Rose Jam range. The Rose Jam scent is made up of Rose, Geranium and Lemon. The sweet, floral rose is perfectly matched with the similar floral notes from the geranium, with a subtle zesty kick from the lemon oil, giving Rose Jam a surprisingly unique smell that leaves you feeling almost intoxicated and cheerful.

Much like Rose Jam Shower Gel, Ro’s Argan contains antiseptic and stimulating Cypress Leaf Infusion, which reawakens skin. It also contains antioxidant Argan Oil and Goji Berry Juice to help promote healthy cell regeneration.

For the conditioning values, Ro’s Argan contains vitamin rich Almond and Brazil Nut Oils which give the skin added nourishment. It also contains skin-softening and moisturising Cocoa, Shea and Cupuaçu Butters which make the product feel buttery rich and luxurious. The Brazil Nut also gives Ro’s Argan a slightly nuttier scent as opposed to other members of the Rose Jam family.

I find this product to be incredibly soothing, it’s one of my go to’s if I’m ever sunburnt or suffering with skin irritation because it really works wonders. The majority of the ingredients here, including Rose, Almond and Vanilla, are perfect for soothing and restoring the skin.

Although I do prefer to use my Ro’s Argan in the shower, I know a lot of people do use it after as just a body moisturiser instead. Personally I do think it works better as intended, just because it reacts well with the water which helps the cream sink in, but it really is just a personal preference.
