Butterbear Bath Bomb

Each Christmas, Lush temporarily discontinue the popular Butterball Bath Bomb and replace it with a more festive version, the Butterbear!

Often customers get confused and/or believe that the two products are different but real talk, Butterball and Butterbear are the same thing. Facts are facts America, it’s just a different shape.

Butterbear still features the same sweet, reassuring scent as Butterball, which is a mix of sweet Ylang Ylang Oil with a vanilla-like Synthetic Musk. Ylang Ylang Oil is used in aromatherapy to relax the nervous system and relieve anger, panic and fear, giving you a leisurely bath tub experience. There is a slight amount of Cocoa Powder in the mix, the only difference in versions, but it’s mainly for the colouring around it’s nose and doesn’t add much to the scent.

Once popped in the water, it quickly fizzes away, shooting out the mini chunks of brown Cocoa Butter into the water, ready to be absorbed by the skin. Once you’re in you can feel it almost straight away in the bath as well as a long time after you’ve left it, as it leaves your skin feeling super soft and smelling sweet! Unfortunately the water doesn’t really change much in terms of colour, there’s just a slight pale yellow tint.

Both versions of this product are really great for younger skins and sensitive skins alike, due to the simple and gentle ingredients list.

The different shape is a cute change for Christmas, and they actually prove to be pretty popular each year. But it is still just a plain old Butterball, which I do actually find quite boring unless it’s paired with something else!

Butterbear Shower Jelly

A new product for 2018, this shower jelly is designed to look like the cute Butterbear Bath Bomb, which is Lush’s Christmas version of the popular Butterball.

Upon first smell, you can immediately recognise the familiar scent. Butterballs and Butterbears are known for their Cocoa Butter content which is mixed with uplifting Ylang Ylang and sweet Synthetic Musk to create a really comforting vanilla and chocolatey fragrance.

Because of the Cocoa Butter, Butterbear is perhaps one of the most moisturising and softening shower jellies I’ve ever used. It makes my skin feel undeniably soft and coupled with the Carrageenan Seaweed jelly base, the lather it creates is luxuriously creamy and nourishing.

Although it’s slightly smaller than some other jellies due to the shape, the lower price and it’s benefits more than make up for it. The Butterball family is known to be perfect for small children and those with sensitive skin due to the simple ingredient list and this is no exception.

The scent is also known to be very subtle but I find that it’s perhaps at its strongest in this format and it’s got a relatively good staying power on your skin providing you don’t cover it up with another fragrance.

This is possibly my favourite jelly to date, as much as I wish it would stick around all year, I’m positive that mine will last until next Christmas when hopefully it’ll be back!

Butterball Bath Bomb

A classic.

Butterball is a lovely bath bomb that’s perfect for when you’re looking for something that’s gentle on the skin and gentle on the nose. It’s full of moisturising cocoa butter to nourish dry and irritated skin. It’s also got very a very short list of ingredients meaning it’s perfect for anyone with sensitive skin (including little ones!).

Butterball is scented with Ylang Ylang and Synthetic Musk. Ylang Ylang Oil is used in aromatherapy to relax the nervous system and relieve anger, panic and fear. Synthetic Musk has a sweet and seductive scent. Natural Musk (from animals) has been used in Chinese medicine for years to help cure anxiety. Luckily, Lush found a way to make Musk cruelty free by producing it synthetically. Both of these combined give this bath bomb a sweet and delicious vanilla smell.

Once in the bath, Butterball fizzes away quite quickly, filling the water with rich buttery oils as the Cocoa Butter melts with the temperature. There’s a pale yellowish tint to the water but because of the bath bomb’s size and lack of strong colour, it doesn’t change the colour that much.

The melted butter in the water quickly gets to work at deeply nourishing and moisturising your skin and you can feel it almost straight away in the bath as well as a long time after you’ve left it, as it leaves your skin feeling super soft and smelling sweet!

Personally, whilst I do see the appeal of a simple bath bomb, I wouldn’t use a Butterball ever on it’s own, I think it’s a great addition to another bath bomb or bubble bar such as The Experimenter or Karma and I love to use it with something else, but for me it is a little boring on its own.
