Snow Fairy Sparkle Jar

Sparkle Jars are kind of like marmite, either people are really intrigued by them and love them, or they straight up don’t want one and think it’s a pointless gimmick.

This year was the second year of Lush doing Sparkle Jars for Christmas and of course popular Snow Fairy has been made available both years.

Shaped like a star and coloured pink, you can definitely guess that the familiar sweet candy floss scent of Snow Fairy hides within. The powder that’s inside the ‘jar’ is also scented the same and is basically just Fairy Dust Dusting Powder.

The massage bar outer container is made up of Organic Cocoa Butter, making it super moisturising for the skin. Because Cocoa Butter tends to be a lot less melty than some other butters Lush use, it really needs to be warmed up against the skin before you start feeling the benefits. It’s perfect for when you’ve just stepped out of the shower and your skin is radiating that extra warmth.

I love to use mine as a body moisturiser, but the best part is the powder inside. If you think you’re already silky smooth after using the outside, you’re in for a treat. Poke holes with a pencil in the two indents and use the jar like a salt shaker, sprinkling the scented powder all over your skin.

Being mostly made up of Cornflour and other powders, it’s highly absorbent and effectively softens your skin even more! Like Fairy Dust, it’s also full of plastic free glitter so is perfect when you want that extra shimmer.

Lush’s glitters and lustres are usually made up of Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, otherwise known as Synthetic Mica. Mica is one of the main compounds of granite and Lush produce it synthetically because of concerns over child labour in the mining of natural mica. Synthetic Mica is also brighter and purer than natural mica and has a more uniform finish which doesn’t contain any sharp edges, making it safer for use in cosmetics.

Obviously, because the Sparkle Jars are hollow inside and are comprised of a bottom part with a lid attached, they can be delicate, so just handle with care and don’t apply too much pressure when using because they contain more powder than you’d think and you don’t want to be cleaning that up!

Twilight Sparkle Jar

Sparkle Jars first appeared for Christmas 2017 when Lush released them in both Twilight and Snow Fairy versions. Although from experience of working in store last Christmas where they didn’t seem immensely popular, Lush didn’t give up and bought them both back for this years range.

A Sparkle Jar is basically a massage bar, with a hidden compartment of dusting powder inside it. The idea is to glide the bar across your skin, leaving a train of moisturising oils behind and then afterwards lightly dusting with the powder for a subtle shimmer and extra softness.

Sparkle Jars feature two little indents on their lids, which you need to prick with a pencil or any sharp object so they form holes and allow the powder to come out.

Aptly crescent moon-shaped Twilight Sparkle Jar, of course, features the heavenly lavender scent of the Twilight/Sleepy family, which is one of the most relaxing scents Lush have ever created. Lavender has been used for centuries in relaxation techniques and to ease the mind from worry and although slightly herbal in scent naturally, it’s sweetened here with the addition of Tonka and Ylang Ylang.

I find that the outside Cocoa Butter casing is a lot less oily than most of Lush’s massage bars and can take a little while to warm up and get going, especially on colder days. However, when it does it is expertly moisturising and nourishing. Lavender is also perfect for soothing any irritation you may have on the skin.

The inside dusting powder is Twilight scented too, in a more powdery form and oddly, somewhat less sweet. It’s a mix of mainly highly absorbent Tapioca Starch, Lavender Powder and Chamomile Powder so is also perfect for soothing and calming inflamed skin.

Both the case and the powder contain a large amount of glitter, leaving a faint purply-silver glow after use.

Obviously, because the Sparkle Jars are hollow inside and are comprised of a bottom part with a lid attached, they can be delicate, so just handle with care and don’t apply too much pressure when using because they contain a whole lot of messy powder and you don’t want it to break on you!

I can’t say I’m a massive fan of the Sparkle Jars, I think they are great as gifts and as Christmas novelty items but I doubt I’ll be coming back for more once I’ve finished mine up as I’d rather use both a massage bar and a dusting powder as separate items.

Fairy Dust Dusting Powder

Christmas 2015 saw the first release of this dusting powder with it’s current name, previously it had gone by the name of Candy Fluff and was a limited edition Lush Kitchen release. Obviously more suited to the Snow Fairy season, it’s been back a few times for Christmas since.

To use a dusting powder, you simply shake the bottle over the desired area and then rub it across your skin, or if you prefer you can sprinkle it into your hands first. They’re an excellent way of helping you feel less ‘oily’ after using a body lotion or massage bar, or for helping you dry off after those warm days when you’re a little too moist, or for just when you want to add a little sparkly smoothness to your life!

Basically, a dusting powder is made from super absorbent powders such as Cornflour and Sodium Bicarbonate to absorb excess moisture on the skin. It feels really lovely on when you’ve covered your body and makes you feel so baby soft. It also features a heavy amount of lustre which really glimmers when the light hits your skin, but it’s not overbearingly glittery at all. I believe it to be the perfect amount!

I know a lot of people like to sprinkle it over their bedsheets to give a long lasting aroma which will 100% still be there by morning and for a good few days too!

As you can guess with the pink label, Fairy Dust has the popular Snow Fairy scent which is made from a sweet smelling Synthetic Musk and smells of candy floss and pear drops. For some it can be a little too sweet, but for most, they go crazy over this stuff. The scent’s actually really strong in this format, meaning a little really does go a long way.

I think it’s a great novelty for Snow Fairy fans and makes the perfect stocking filler, the small bottle will last months and months so it’s really actually quite good for the money.
