Cup O’ Coffee Face and Body Mask

I’m one of those people who cannot survive without coffee. I have to have a cup as soon as I wake up otherwise I won’t make it through the morning, or rather everyone around me won’t. I love the taste, I love the smell, so it comes as no surprise that Cup O’ Coffee is one of my favourite products from Lush and my all-time favourite face mask.

As soon as you crack open the lid, you’re hit with a strong coffee aroma which can put you off if that’s not your cup of tea, or coffee rather. Coffee contains a high amount of caffeine, which is a stimulant to the brain, waking you up and giving you energy if you consume it. Likewise, it is also a stimulant for the skin. Cup O’ Coffee contains an infusion made from coffee beans which boosts circulation to the skin, reviving and brightening the complexion. Lush have also included Caffeine Powder to boost that effect.

Although Cup O’ Coffee is a mask, it contains Ground Coffee which acts as an effective exfoliant when you’re washing it off. It’s actually fairly scrubby on the skin which is perfect for deeply cleansing pores and removing dirt. Ground Coffee is one of the best eco-friendly alternatives to plastic microbeads. I will never understand why companies still continue to use highly damaging ingredients in their products when nature provides an alternative.

This mask actually has a fairly moist and sticky texture due to the addition of Agave Syrup. Like honey, this syrup is highly antibacterial and anti-inflammatory as well was being moisturising for the skin. This definitely makes the scrub a little less harsh and leaves the skin feeling soft and nourished once removed. Also added for their cleansing benefits are Kaolin, which draws out the impurities in the skin, and Bentone Gel which is great for absorbing excess sebum.

Lastly a few other ingredients have been included mostly to enhance the mask’s scent, but each have their own individual properties too. Vanilla Absolute is soothing and antibacterial when applied to the skin. Vanilin, its main aromatic compound, is antioxidant and contributes to restoring skin’s brightness and softness. Coriander Oil and Vetivert Oil are warming and stimulating, contributing to the mask’s main benefits and lastly Roasted Cocoa Extract gives a rich aroma to the product whilst also being soothing.

I love the feeling after using this mask. My skin always feels so smooth and honestly looks noticeably brighter and healthier. Dull skin no more! Furthermore, I often get bored of products and I love changing up my routine but Cup O Coffee is definitely one of my desert island products that I doubt I’ll ever stop using. Do not stop making this product Lush!!

Aurora Borealis Body Scrub

Recently Lush opened up their first naked store in the UK after the success of the naked stores in Milan and Berlin. Lucky for me I got to go to Manchester for the opening day! You won’t find any plastic packaging at this store as every product is completely naked. They have all the shower gels in naked forms, naked deodorants, shampoo bars and a couple of exclusive items such as Aurora Borealis Body Scrub.

Aurora Borealis is another name for the Northern Lights and the bright colours of this particular scrub suggests that’s why it was named so. It’s relatively small, but the price reflects that and you can probably get around five or six uses I reckon. Aurora Borealis contains Sicilian Lemon Oil, Spearmint Oil and Pineapple Powder and all three of these ingredients are the perfect cleansers as they’re all antiseptic, antibacterial and rejuvenating. Lemon Oil contains alpha-hydroxy-acids which are enzymes that cleanse the skin by breaking down dirt, excess oil and dead skin, revealing fresh new skin underneath. Spearmint and invigorates the skin, boosting the blood flow beneath and Pineapples are naturally rich in vitamins and other enzymes that cleanse and reduce swelling.

The scent is fruity and sweet with a hint of freshness from the Spearmint. It doesn’t overly smell of fruit or of mint but it’s a nice combination, not at all strong but it’s a lovely scent nonetheless.

The actual scrub is made from Sugar and Fine Sea Salt to exfoliate and remove dead skin.  It’s actually rather abrasive when in use, and especially when it’s dry so it might be best to add a little water to it and mix it up into your hands before scrubbing your skin if you’d prefer a gentler exfoliation. Like with all of Lush’s solid sugar scrubs, if Aurora Borealis gets too wet it can fall apart, so it’s a good idea to break off a piece each time you use it so you’re not wasting any. A real bonus is that it looks so pretty when you’re using it with all the colours that cover your skin!

Afterwards my skin felt so beautifully refreshed and polished and I was surprised to notice that the quiet scent was actually lingering on my skin for a while after! In conclusion, Aurora Borealis was a nice shower companion and I’d happily grab one again next time I’m in Manchester! Let me know if you’ve had a chance to use this exclusive product!

Gritti Politti Naked Cleansing Balm

Apparently this naked cleansing balm is named after the British band Scritti Politti but I’m sorry to say I have no idea who they are…

Gritti Politti is one of five new cleansing balms that debuted as part of a whole Naked Skincare launch and is the only one to feature an exfoliant. It contains Ground Coconut Shell to gently scrub away at dead skin and cleanse your pores! I know some people have said they’d rather it be a little more abrasive but for me it’s absolutely perfect and I’m currently using it every other night to cleanse my face.

To use this cleanser you can either melt it between your fingers and then massage it in your skin or swipe the bar as a whole over your face. I personally prefer to do the latter as I find it doesn’t really feel very exfoliating at all if you do the former. You simply then just wipe clean with a damp face cloth!

The actual bar itself is made from two types of butter as well as Coconut Oil. Cupuaçu Butter is a soft and nourishing emollient which protects and moisturises the skin, as well as being full of antioxidants. A new ingredient for Lush is Kokum Butter, which is also highly moisturising. Because of both of these butters’ ability to melt very quickly upon contact with the skin, Gritti Politti leaves behind a greatly nourishing residue that will make your face feel superbly soft and hydrated. However, it does mean that you have to be careful not to store it anywhere where it’ll get too warm, else it’ll melt!

Because of the high oil content, like all of the naked cleansing balms, Gritti Politti is great at removing make up.

This cleansing balm has a beautiful buttery coconut scent to it due to all the ingredients I’ve already spoken about but Lush have also added couple more to enhance the sweet and natural fragrance. It incorporates Rosewood Oil, Sandalwood Oil, Benzoin Resinoid and Vetivert Oil which all have extra benefits for the skin as a bonus. Rosewood is antiseptic and balancing, whereas the three others are soothing and protective.

I’ve loved all the cleansing balms so far and Gritti is no exception. I adore how soft and nourished my skin feels each time I use it and it also makes my face feel adequately clean too. It’s so gentle and would make the perfect exfoliator for someone with dry and sensitive skin. It’s for sure something I’m going to continue to purchase and use!

You can check it out for yourself here over at the Lush UK website!

Life’s A Beach! Body Scrub Powder

Life’s A Beach was a relatively forgettable product that started out as an exclusive product for Australia and New Zealand. It then became available at Oxford Street and online before being released in all stores across the country.

It was discontinued earlier this year and honestly I don’t think many people are too sad about it.

img_1313

Unlike most of Lush’s products, Life’s A Beach came packaged in a cardboard box, much like the ‘Showders’, this made it easier to pour the product out of the little slot, rather than scoop it out of a black pot. Whilst it’s great that obviously this packaging is fully and easily recyclable, the trouble with it is that you can’t really get it wet without the risk of it causing damage to the box, and obviously for something that you use in the shower, this isn’t ideal.

Like the name suggests, a main part of this scrub is Sand and it’s the most visible ingredient. There’s also Sea Salt in there too, but yes this product is mainly just fragranced sand. These two natural exfoliators are a great way of scrubbing the skin without the use of microbeads which are incredibly damaging to the environment.

A great thing about this product is that because the scrub is dry, you can use it straight away as it is or add it to water depending on how abrasive you want a scrub to be. Personally I really love to add some of it to a shower gel or cream such as Oaty Creamy Dreamy or It’s Raining Men for a more luxurious moisturising scrub.

The scent is rather sweet as Life’s A Beach is fragranced with Gardenia, Jasmine, Tonka and Vanilla. The Tonka and the Vanilla are the strongest notes, reminding me of sweet ice cream at the beach which is very fitting.

If you’re just using this scrub on it’s own the scent actually lingers with you for quite a while, however it’s easily over powered by stronger smells when used in conjunction with another product.

My skin always feels so soft after using this product, like I said it’s just perfect for turning your favourite shower gel into a scrub!

I can’t say I’ll miss this product that much when mine has ran out, there are a multitude of scrubs I enjoy much more and frankly it was about time for this particular one to go, customers hardly ever purchased or were even intrigued by it. May she rest in piece.

Oatifix Fresh Face Mask

img_1012

Oatifix was invented by a group of Lush store managers who took part in a ‘Ready Steady Create’ weekend, they wanted to create a face mask that was gently exfoliating and suitable for dry and sensitive skin.

Oats are a fantastic thing. Not only a nutritious food source, they’ve also been used for thousands of years to soothe skin and relieve itching and inflammation. Oats contain polysaccharides (carbohydrates) which become gelatinous when mixed with water and leaves a protective film on the skin.

The Oatmeal, Ground Almonds and Kaolin work together for a gently exfoliating base which helps remove dead skin as you take it off.

img_0389

Whilst on the skin, you can already feel the hydrating properties get to work, Oatifix feels really luxurious the whole time it sits on the skin due to the buttery rich texture. Although Lush say to keep it on for around 10 to 15 minutes, I definitely think the longer you can leave this particular mask on, the better it gets!

The Fresh Banana in this product is what gives it it’s richness, bananas are full of vitamins and minerals and are perfect for softening the skin. Also adding to the moisturising qualities we have Illipe Butter, which is often regarded as the richest of butters.

The addition of Vanilla Absolute, Sandalwood Oil and Benzoin Resinoid contribute to the lovely scent of this face mask, it’s smells like honey almond breakfast porridge, tempting enough to eat!

Oatifix leaves you feeling superbly hydrated and soft, it’s perfect for those with dry skin, or those who simply want to boost their skin’s natural hydration! It also really works on dry patches around the body, especially around the elbows and the knees, or if your hands are in need of some moisture, use it as a hand mask!

This lovely mask is here for you to look at online.
