Twilight Shower Jelly

Call it whichever you want, but I feel like the Sleepy/Twilight scent has fast become the company’s most popular. Or one of them anyway. It’s no surprise they’ve finally released it in a shower jelly format across all stores, which is already receiving rave reviews.

The scent itself is incredibly relaxing. Lavender is one of the best ingredients around for it’s relaxing and stress-relieving effects on the mind and has been used for thousands of years in aromatherapy to aid restful sleep. Whereas the natural aroma of Lavender is somewhat herbal, the addition of Ylang Ylang Oil, Benzoin Resinoid and Tonka Absolute to all Twilight-scented products gives it much more of a sweet and warm fragrance that envelops you in a cosy hug. It’s the perfect scent for before-bedtime washing.

As a shower jelly, I think the scent is quite strong and whilst you’re lathering it up over your body it definitely fills your senses and I find the fresher, herbal elements of the Lavender come out more. Lavender also has wonderful benefits for the skin too, it’s both antiseptic and soothing, not to mention its great balancing properties also. Although a shower jelly isn’t my usual go-to in the shower as I’m more of a bath time jelly user, they do leave you just as clean as a shower gel or a bar of soap does.

Each shower jelly contains a base made from something called Carrageenan Extract, a mucilage extracted from Irish Moss Seaweed, which is dried and powdered. When put in contact with liquids, it rehydrates and jellies, acting as a thickening agent, emulsifier and stabiliser, while moisturising and soothing the skin as well.

I’m actually really loving this jelly. It looks absolutely beautiful out of it’s tub and the photos sadly don’t even do it justice. I love the swirly pattern that they give some of their shower jellies rather than just the one block colour. Whatsmore it’s scent stays on my skin after using it, allowing me to smell that wonderful scent for hours after and helping me really settle in for the evening.

29 High Street Shower Jelly

29 High Street is the name of Lush’s most exclusive perfume, only available to customers shopping at 29 High Street, Poole- the place where it all started. I’m yet to get my hands on the perfume but I recently snapped up a 29 High Street Shower Jelly that shares the same scent.

The perfume was designed to recreate the generic ‘Lush aroma’ that spills out of shops and greets you powerfully when you walk inside. I’d argue somewhat that with countless new products and formulations over the years as well as the discontinuation of a few, the scent inside stores is very different to what it was all those years ago when the perfume was first developed.

When developing the scent, Lush chose ingredients that feature a great deal in their products, bearing in mind those that have strong scent profiles to really determine what the real ‘Lush scent’ could be. They came to the conclusion to use Jasmine, Lemon, Lime, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood and Tonka, and it really bloody works.

I find the first element I get from the fragrance is the sweet floral notes coming from the Jasmine and Ylang Ylang but they’re totally sharing the spotlight with a refreshing, fruity and slightly zesty note of Lemon and Lime. The creamy sweetness of Tonka Absolute and the warming woody tones of Sandalwood give the scent more complexity and deepness, whilst really rounding the smell off into something that I can only describe as being intoxicatingly and so moreish. It’s a mix that really shouldn’t work but it definitely does. I think you really have to experience this scent first hand and decide for yourself if you’re into it or not.

As a jelly, I think this scent works amazingly. It’s really quite potent when you’re lathering it up over your body meaning it leaves you smelling of the fragrance for hours after. Lush’s shower jellies all contain a base that’s derived from seaweed, so they’re incredibly nourishing and softening for the skin.

As well as the Jasmine Absolute, Lush have included Jasmine Flower Infusion as one of the main ingredients in this jelly to boost the sensual fragrant aroma that the flowers are well known for, but also for its skin-soothing properties. Lush have also included Fresh Lemon Juice for its multitude of benefits for the skin too. Lemons are full of antioxidants and vitamins, and their juice is cleansing, toning and antiseptic.

This is hands down my favourite shower jelly I’ve ever used. I love how long the strength of the scent lasts and although I actually don’t often use my jellies (even though I have so many), I’m using this one a lot because I’m so in love and it makes my skin feel so soft too! I need to get my hands on that perfume ASAP!!!

Crash Shower Jelly

Crash is currently one of a few ‘party exclusive’ products, which you can only get your hands on if you’re booking or attending a Lush Party. Luckily I managed to get one too!

Crash offers a classic and fan favourite scent that’ll really lift your spirits and get you in the celebratory mood. Of course, I’m talking about the Celebrate/Golden Wonder scent! Consisting of Sweet Orange, Lime and Cognac Oils, this fluorescent yellow jelly strongly emits a zesty and sweet aroma that hits you as soon as you twist off the lid.

The celebrate scent was originally designed to replicate the aroma of a glass of bubbly, and with fruity, bright, almost alcoholic notes, I can see why. Cognac Oil is extracted by steam distillation from dried, fermented grapes and that’s definitely where that ‘alcoholic’ aroma comes from. Lime and Orange add the zestier, more refreshing notes and come together wonderfully. I like to think of it as the scent of orange soda or a bucks fizz.

Lush’s shower jellies can be used in a multitude of ways, some people prefer to cut them up into smaller chunks for easier use, some people put them in a blender for a whipped like effect or if you’re like me you just use the whole thing as one big, wobbly bar of soap.

On the skin, citrus oils such as Orange and Lime have amazing cleansing, toning and antiseptic benefits. Citrus fruits usually contains enzymes which help breakdown excess oils and dead skin cells, leaving behind brighter, tighter skin. Crash also contains Fresh Orange Juice for this same effect. Cleansing with these fruit juices and oils means you also benefit from their antioxidant vitamin and mineral content too.

Crash further contains Luminescent Zinc Sulfide, which after spending a day absorbing light, will make it glow in the dark!

When I first used Crash, I was pleased to find that under the heat of the water, the juicy scent only amplified and really filled my senses, perfect for an uplifting morning shower.  The jelly itself, like always, was super moisturising and felt really lovely gliding over my skin. This is thanks to the very ingredient that causes these products to have their jelly-like consistency: Carrageenan Extract, derived from seaweed.

Although in its solid form and when in use, the aroma is very potent, I couldn’t really smell much of it on my skin after towelling dry surprisingly. Though I’m not a huge fan of orangey fragrances on my skin so I didn’t mind so much. My skin was soft and bright, so that more than made up for it. If you’re a fan of this scent, or any zesty scents in general, you’re definitely going to want to get your hands on a Crash!

Deep Sleep Shower Jelly

Deep Sleep Shower Jelly, like the name suggests is the perfect accompaniment to a shower before bed. The beautiful and relaxing scent is perfect to calm the mind and help you doze off.

Lush’s shower jellies all feature a base made from Carrageenan Extract, which is derived from seaweed and is what gives it it’s jelly-like texture. This also gives all jellies a base level of hydrating effects.

Deep Sleep contains Sunflower Petal Infusion as well as an infusion from the seeds of sunflowers too. The petals create a soothing and calming infusion, whereas the seeds create an infusion that carries their moisturising fatty acids and antioxidants, great for hydrating and maintaining the skin’s suppleness and glow.

Along with the Sunflower Petal Infusion, the Lavender and Chamomile Oils that Deep Sleep contains are also well known in skincare for their soothing and calming qualities on inflamed and irritated skin. These two ingredients mix with uplifting and toning Neroli Oil to create the product’s scent.

The raw, natural smell of the Lavender is definitely the main note of the scent and to be honest it’s hard to pick out the other ingredients unless you really know what you’re looking for. Both Lavender and Chamomile have been used for centuries to aid relaxation, help with anxiety and allow for a more restful sleep. Neroli Oil’s intense green and floral scent is reputed to cheer up your mood and help you find inner peace.

Although it’s difficult to pick out in the scent, there’s a slight citrusy note in the background which likely comes from the inclusion of Fresh Orange Juice, which helps rejuvenate the skin. Oranges contain many antioxidants and their hight vitamin C content promotes collagen production. Anything citrus based is also great for cleansing the skin and tightening pores.

In the shower it’s great and the scent really lifts and becomes more powerful under the hot water. Sadly it doesn’t leave much of a lingering aroma once you’re dried off.

I love to pair Deep Sleep with a relaxing bath bomb or in an evening shower before whacking on some Sleepy Body Lotion to really put me in the mood for bed. Sadly though, Deep Sleep will be leaving us soon to make way for another jelly, so grab one while you still can!

Bongo Shower Jelly

A couple of weekends ago, I was fortunate enough to visit the recently opened store in Liverpool, which can I say is beautiful. It’s now the biggest Lush store in the world and spreads across three floors including a spa! But perhaps the most exciting thing, is the fact that it hosts over three-hundred new products, including six new jellies and after smelling Bongo, I knew I had to take it home with me.

Except from Twilight Shower Jelly, the new exclusive jellies are all named rather musically – there’s Beats, Bongo, Gong, Rumba and Conga. I had a sniff of each, with some sporting familiar scents such as Golden Pear and So White, but the tropical fragrance of Bongo was really calling my name.

Bongo literally smells like a Pina Colada! It doesn’t contain Pineapple in any form but it contains sweet Fresh Mango Juice instead, alongside Coconut Milk. It’s such a tropical and juicy scent and I’ve been really craving something like this for ages, especially for the shower. It’s so energising and happy and I’m obsessed. I can’t stop myself from smelling it almost every time I step into my bathroom! It also contains Vanilla and Oakwood Absolutes too but I personally can’t notice them in the scent.

Mangoes are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants – calcium, potassium, vitamin A, E and C and several B vitamins. In fact, it’s one of the most nutritious foods in the world. When applied to the skin, the enzymes it contains help remove dirt and debris, clarifying and improving the texture of the skin.

Incase you weren’t sure, Lush’s shower jellies are actually made from a seaweed extract and are completely environmentally friendly. Seaweed is immensely great at softening and nourishing the skin, making all jellies fairly moisturising. Bongo goes that extra mile with its Coconut Milk content, which is greatly soothing and hydrating.

I’m in love with Bongo. It’s potentially my favourite jelly Lush have ever released. I think it also looks really pretty with it’s peculiar appearance that almost makes it look like the mixture has separated. I’d love to see this scent being used elsewhere, it would make a lovely shower gel! I find the scent really stays on your body long after you’ve washed with it too!

This product is a must try! Hopefully it’ll become widely available soon!

Whoosh Shower Jelly

I feel as though Whoosh has been around forever. I’m not sure when exactly it was first released but it’s been definitely been over ten years. I first came across Whoosh when I was much younger, my mum had been gifted it by somebody and it sat for a long while in our bathroom. That’s until I realised what it was and became obsessed with how it felt, realising how much fun I could have with it! I’m pretty sure I destroyed it before my mum even had a chance to use it…

Shower jellies were inspired by the popular British staple at a kid’s birthday party, the combo of jelly and ice cream! Furthermore, they were actually invented for the company’s own 10th birthday in 2005!

Mineral-rich carrageenan extract, derived from seaweed, forms the unique solid base, therefore making the jellies actually pretty moisturising! It also is the perfect carrier for fruit juices and Whoosh features a triple threat of Lemon, Lime and Grapefruit, giving it a zesty uplifting fragrance that smells exactly like lemon and lime flavoured squash or sweets!

These citrus juices also make Whoosh very cleansing and toning for the skin. Large amounts of vitamin C in these fruits mean that they’re also very antioxidant, rejuvenating tired and dull skin.

Whoosh also contains a large quantity of Honey Water, amplifying the hydrating properties of the seaweed base and further protecting the skin. Rosemary Oil has also been added to balance and help with any tense muscular aches and pains!

I love using this energising jelly to wake me up on hot summer mornings, I grab it straight from the freezer so it’s extra refreshing! As someone who’s not a massive fan of citrus scents, I actually rather like this one, so would be pleased to see more of it in other formats some day. I always find my skin looks visibly brighter also, which gives me a boost of confidence as a nice added touch!

What are your thoughts on Whoosh? Let me know in the comments section and feel free to check out Whoosh for yourself, over at the Lush UK website.

Butterbear Shower Jelly

A new product for 2018, this shower jelly is designed to look like the cute Butterbear Bath Bomb, which is Lush’s Christmas version of the popular Butterball.

Upon first smell, you can immediately recognise the familiar scent. Butterballs and Butterbears are known for their Cocoa Butter content which is mixed with uplifting Ylang Ylang and sweet Synthetic Musk to create a really comforting vanilla and chocolatey fragrance.

Because of the Cocoa Butter, Butterbear is perhaps one of the most moisturising and softening shower jellies I’ve ever used. It makes my skin feel undeniably soft and coupled with the Carrageenan Seaweed jelly base, the lather it creates is luxuriously creamy and nourishing.

Although it’s slightly smaller than some other jellies due to the shape, the lower price and it’s benefits more than make up for it. The Butterball family is known to be perfect for small children and those with sensitive skin due to the simple ingredient list and this is no exception.

The scent is also known to be very subtle but I find that it’s perhaps at its strongest in this format and it’s got a relatively good staying power on your skin providing you don’t cover it up with another fragrance.

This is possibly my favourite jelly to date, as much as I wish it would stick around all year, I’m positive that mine will last until next Christmas when hopefully it’ll be back!
