Bongo Shower Jelly

A couple of weekends ago, I was fortunate enough to visit the recently opened store in Liverpool, which can I say is beautiful. It’s now the biggest Lush store in the world and spreads across three floors including a spa! But perhaps the most exciting thing, is the fact that it hosts over three-hundred new products, including six new jellies and after smelling Bongo, I knew I had to take it home with me.

Except from Twilight Shower Jelly, the new exclusive jellies are all named rather musically – there’s Beats, Bongo, Gong, Rumba and Conga. I had a sniff of each, with some sporting familiar scents such as Golden Pear and So White, but the tropical fragrance of Bongo was really calling my name.

Bongo literally smells like a Pina Colada! It doesn’t contain Pineapple in any form but it contains sweet Fresh Mango Juice instead, alongside Coconut Milk. It’s such a tropical and juicy scent and I’ve been really craving something like this for ages, especially for the shower. It’s so energising and happy and I’m obsessed. I can’t stop myself from smelling it almost every time I step into my bathroom! It also contains Vanilla and Oakwood Absolutes too but I personally can’t notice them in the scent.

Mangoes are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants – calcium, potassium, vitamin A, E and C and several B vitamins. In fact, it’s one of the most nutritious foods in the world. When applied to the skin, the enzymes it contains help remove dirt and debris, clarifying and improving the texture of the skin.

Incase you weren’t sure, Lush’s shower jellies are actually made from a seaweed extract and are completely environmentally friendly. Seaweed is immensely great at softening and nourishing the skin, making all jellies fairly moisturising. Bongo goes that extra mile with its Coconut Milk content, which is greatly soothing and hydrating.

I’m in love with Bongo. It’s potentially my favourite jelly Lush have ever released. I think it also looks really pretty with it’s peculiar appearance that almost makes it look like the mixture has separated. I’d love to see this scent being used elsewhere, it would make a lovely shower gel! I find the scent really stays on your body long after you’ve washed with it too!

This product is a must try! Hopefully it’ll become widely available soon!

Whoosh Shower Jelly

I feel as though Whoosh has been around forever. I’m not sure when exactly it was first released but it’s been definitely been over ten years. I first came across Whoosh when I was much younger, my mum had been gifted it by somebody and it sat for a long while in our bathroom. That’s until I realised what it was and became obsessed with how it felt, realising how much fun I could have with it! I’m pretty sure I destroyed it before my mum even had a chance to use it…

Shower jellies were inspired by the popular British staple at a kid’s birthday party, the combo of jelly and ice cream! Furthermore, they were actually invented for the company’s own 10th birthday in 2005!

Mineral-rich carrageenan extract, derived from seaweed, forms the unique solid base, therefore making the jellies actually pretty moisturising! It also is the perfect carrier for fruit juices and Whoosh features a triple threat of Lemon, Lime and Grapefruit, giving it a zesty uplifting fragrance that smells exactly like lemon and lime flavoured squash or sweets!

These citrus juices also make Whoosh very cleansing and toning for the skin. Large amounts of vitamin C in these fruits mean that they’re also very antioxidant, rejuvenating tired and dull skin.

Whoosh also contains a large quantity of Honey Water, amplifying the hydrating properties of the seaweed base and further protecting the skin. Rosemary Oil has also been added to balance and help with any tense muscular aches and pains!

I love using this energising jelly to wake me up on hot summer mornings, I grab it straight from the freezer so it’s extra refreshing! As someone who’s not a massive fan of citrus scents, I actually rather like this one, so would be pleased to see more of it in other formats some day. I always find my skin looks visibly brighter also, which gives me a boost of confidence as a nice added touch!

Butterbear Shower Jelly

A new product for 2018, this shower jelly is designed to look like the cute Butterbear Bath Bomb, which is Lush’s Christmas version of the popular Butterball.

Upon first smell, you can immediately recognise the familiar scent. Butterballs and Butterbears are known for their Cocoa Butter content which is mixed with uplifting Ylang Ylang and sweet Synthetic Musk to create a really comforting vanilla and chocolatey fragrance.

Because of the Cocoa Butter, Butterbear is perhaps one of the most moisturising and softening shower jellies I’ve ever used. It makes my skin feel undeniably soft and coupled with the Carrageenan Seaweed jelly base, the lather it creates is luxuriously creamy and nourishing.

Although it’s slightly smaller than some other jellies due to the shape, the lower price and it’s benefits more than make up for it. The Butterball family is known to be perfect for small children and those with sensitive skin due to the simple ingredient list and this is no exception.

The scent is also known to be very subtle but I find that it’s perhaps at its strongest in this format and it’s got a relatively good staying power on your skin providing you don’t cover it up with another fragrance.

This is possibly my favourite jelly to date, as much as I wish it would stick around all year, I’m positive that mine will last until next Christmas when hopefully it’ll be back!

Santa’s Belly Shower Jelly

Originally available for Christmas 2015, Santa’s Belly Shower Jelly is now a staple of Lush’s Christmas range. It’s rather unique because it’s not the usual shower jelly shape, it’s shaped to literally look like Santa’s round belly!

Like all jellies, the base is made from Glycerine and Carrageenan Extract, derived from Irish Moss Seaweed. This gives Shower Jellies their texture, and helps to moisturise and nourish your skin. This particular Jelly is a deep red colour, filled with gorgeous golden stars and sparkles!

Santa’s Belly boasts the crisp, vibrant scent of fresh apples, very similar to Once Upon A Time Body Lotion. It’s so refreshing to use in the shower and is really unlike a lot of other Lush scents. Usually when you think of ‘refreshing’ your mind takes you to either Mint or Citrus, so it’s nice to have another really fresh scent to choose.

The scent is mainly from the addition of Fresh Apple and Red Grape Juices. Fruit juices are often rich in antioxidants and vitamins which help to brighten and refresh the skin, they are also great to add to cleansers because they cleanse without stripping moisture. Uplifting oils such as Neroli and Bergamot also add to the cheery scent.

There’s also a slight warming note to the scent from Star Anise Infusion. Stimulating, antiseptic Star Anise is often used in festive products due to it’s appealing, spicy aroma.

This is one of my favourite jellies, I really like the scent in this format and it’s really rather unique amongst all the other jellies! It’s so lovely to use in shower, it lathers up so much and the scent really stays on your skin for a long while!

Grab it whilst you can in stores and online now!

Refresher Shower Jelly

Shower Jellies are a unique, versatile and fun alternative to soaps and shower gels. Mineral-rich Carrageenan Extract, derived from seaweed, forms the unique base.

How to use? Well that’s up to you! You can use the whole piece as one squishy bar of soap and lather it up all over your body, or you can cut it into chunks and use each piece separately. Personally I do the first option with mine!

Refresher is a beautifully zesty citrus scented jelly. With a bright, glimmering yellow colour it’s perfect for energising and brightening your mood. The seaweed base also means that the feel of a jelly gliding over your body is lovely, leaving wonderfully soft skin in it’s wake.

The scent reminds me of sugary lemon tarts, sweet lemon drops or the Refresher sweets which are probably what this shower jelly is named after.

When using, the scent literally engulfs your bathroom as it’s really quite strong. You can smell it everywhere once you’ve used it so it’s great for those who like a long lasting scent on the skin. The jellies lather up extremely well, especially this one, so it’s not hard to get these wobbly soaps going. It’s a very refreshing and uplifting experience, perfect for dreary mornings where all you wanna do is go back to sleep.

Another great thing about the Jellies is that they last an incredible amount of time so they’re great value for the money. After a while, they can end up falling apart but TOP TIP ALERT! If this happens to yours – just stick it in the microwave in it’s pot for around a minute or so and it’ll melt back into it’s original form! Just be careful not to burn yourself with molten jelly though…

Unfortunately, Refresher Shower Jelly was discontinued a while back so it’s currently unavailable, but hopefully it’ll make a return some day as I believe it was one of the better jellies Lush have done!
