American Cream Naked Shower Gel

As with all their new shower gel releases, Lush are also releasing naked versions alongside them to encourage customers to choose packaging free options and to cater for those already following a more eco-friendly living. All of Lush’s plastic is completely recyclable and you can even bring it back to us in stores where we’ll recycle it for you if you’d prefer but if you know you’re bad at recycling or you can’t where you’re living then perhaps you should give the naked versions a go!

Lush remove the water and add an ingredient called Sodium Stearate to their shower gel formulas to get them to become solid. Sodium Stearate is a fine, white powder and the sodium salt of stearic acid. It’s the perfect thickener for soaps and other products. The only problem I have with the naked shower gels is they’re very soft and therefore very messy and you need to make sure to store them appropriately in a container or on something to ensure you don’t leave any marks in your bathroom.

The American Cream scent is a sweet and vanillary scent that’s very reminiscent of delicious strawberry sundaes. The reproduce the scent with the help from Vanilla, Lavender Oil, Clary Sage Oil and Benzoin Resinoid. There’s definitely subtle floral notes in the background but it’s mainly the familiar Vanilla smell that’s at the forefront, with the sweet balsamic scent of the Benzoin Resinoid. Whilst I found that the liquid version had a somewhat synthetic after-smell, I find this version to be a lot truer to the actual American Cream Conditioner and others in the scent family.

You can use the naked shower gels however you like. Personally I prefer to have a good rub into my hands first and then cover my body with the lather, but I know lots of people like to cut up theirs into single use chunks, some blend it up into more of a whipped shower gel and some grab the whole thing and rub it all over! It’s really up to you.

I actually found that this particular naked really lathers up nicely and feels really creamy in consistency. I also found it to be a tad more moisturising than it’s liquid counterpart too and it really left my skin feeling so soft! Furthermore, I complained that my liquid didn’t leave a trace of the scent on my skin but the naked does! It’s very faint but the naked wins again!

I think if I had to choose out of the two versions I’d probably choose this version! Has anyone else had a chance to try both? Let me know in the comments section!

American Cream Shower Gel

Whilst I know that the American Cream scent has a massive amount of love from Lushies old and new, I’ve never really had the chance to really experience it much myself as I don’t use the conditioner and because of that I was’t as overjoyed as some people were when Lush started to release more products in the same scent. I used Marshmallow World Bath Bomb and I really liked it but it’s not until I’ve started using this shower gel that I’ve really grown a new found love for the fragrance.

The scent itself is meant to replicate the aroma of delicious and creamy strawberry milkshakes and it definitely does just that. Although this gel does contain Fresh Strawberry Juice, it doesn’t do anything for the scent as the fruits don’t really have much of a fragrance. Instead the sweet strawberry illusion is from the richness of Vanilla and Benzoin Resinoid, with slight herbal and floral notes from Lavender and Clary Sage. It’s a very sweet and creamy scent and it makes you wanna cover yourself in it as the muskiness of the Vanilla and the Benzoin really envelops your senses with a feeling of comfort. I won’t lie, there’s a slight, almost synthetic after-note in this format, which I don’t really notice in the conditioner, nor did I notice with the bath bomb either but don’t let that put you off, it’s still good!

American Cream has a fairly standard consistency and was easily lathered into my hands and into my sponge in the shower, so I’m hoping that it’s going to mean it’ll last for a long time! The heat of the running water only boosted the scent which allowed me to have a really indulgent experience. This shower gel also contains a small amount of a seaweed extract which makes it really soft and nourishing.

As already mentioned, Lush have added Fresh Strawberry Juice to this mix along with Fresh Orange Juice too. Both fruit juices contain malic and citric acids which cleanse and brighten the skin and they also contain vitamins, minerals and powerful antioxidants to help nourish and improve the skin’s condition and elasticity. Furthermore, the Lavender Oil, along with Clary Sage is great for soothing any irritation.

Once I was out of my shower, I sadly found that the scent had pretty much disappeared, which was a real shame, but my skin was feeling super smooth and refreshed.

American Cream is staying in stores throughout spring up until the summer, so you’ve got plenty of time to stock up if you’re loving it!
